Jonathan G. Campbell provides an introduction to eight sectarian manuscripts from among the Qumran Dead Sea Scrolls that can loosely be called the 'Exegetical Texts'. He examines their contents, background, genre, and significance and he provides a history of the relevant research. The Exegetical Texts constitute a particularly diverse strand of sectarian compositions among the Qumran Dead Sea Scrolls. For this reason, the eight documents are treated in turn in more or less equal measure, with two introductory chapters to set the scene and a conclusion drawing the discussion to a close. Each chapter can be read either alone in its own right or together with the others to gain a broader picture. In order to encourage the reader to encounter the relevant Qumran documents firsthand extensive listings of editions in Hebrew and English are provided. The contributors to the Companion to the Qumran Scrolls series take account of a wide range of relevant and recently published texts and provide extensive bibliographies. The books in the series are authoritatively written in accessible language and are ideal for students and non-specialist scholars. Companion to the Qumran Scrolls, volume 4

Texts And Contexts Of Jeremiah written by Karin Finsterbusch and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016 with Bible categories.

Based on the examples of Jeremiah 1 and 10, this volume contains contributions of the textual reception and of the exegesis of both chapters. Although textual history and reception history are to be distinguished from each other, they are interconnected, as the textual history of any biblical book is also part of its reception history. Jeremiah 1 and 10 are ideal "test cases" because their textual traditions (MT-Jer and LXX-Jer and its Hebrew Vorlage respectively) differ most significantly in terms of rhetoric, structure and content. The volume demonstrates how the Jeremiah's reception history helps to better understand the textual history of both chapters.

Biblical Text And Exegetical Culture written by Michael Fishbane and has been published by Mohr Siebeck this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-01-25 with Religion categories.

In this wide-ranging collection, Michael Fishbane investigates the complex and diverse relationships between the 'biblical text' and 'exegetical culture.' The author demonstrates the multiple literary dimensions and interpretative strategies that came to form the Hebrew Bible in the context of the ancient Near East, the Dead Sea Scrolls in the context of an emergent biblical-Jewish culture, and the classical rabbinic Midrash in the context of an emergent rabbinic civilization in late antiquity. Within each study, and in the collection as a whole, the author shows a broad range of creative methods, always with a scholarly concern to illuminate the religious ideas of Scripture as it was perceived through diverse hermeneutical lenses and exegetical methodologies. The studies range from the purely literary to the highly analytic, from myth to law, and from studies of symbols to the study of exegetical methods.

With the explosive increase in availability of English Bible translations, the question can easily be asked, "Why bother with the hard work of biblical exegesis?" Computers can translate foreign languages and our English texts can take us very close to the original meanings, so why exegete? Answer: because the deepest truths of the Bible are found through the deepest study. This book teaches the principles, methods, and fundamentals of exegeting the New Testament. It also has examples of textual exegesis that clearly and helpfully show the value of exegeting a text well. Any serious student of Scripture would benefit from utilizing this book in the study of the Bible.

Seeing The Text written by Mary H. Schertz and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2001 with Religion categories.

Seeing the Text integrates language study with theories and methods of interpretation. The purpose of the book is to help students increase their facility with the biblical languages while at the same time incorporating exegetical and literary skills and methods. The book thus not only provides a wider theoretical and methodological horizon for language study but also builds a solid, text-based foundation for further biblical studies. Because it is increasingly the case that seminarians do not have the opportunity to study both Greek and Hebrew, examples in both languages are included whenever possible to create a metalinguistic theoretical understanding. The book is, therefore, designed and suitable for both intermediate Hebrew students and intermediate Greek students. Finally, the book includes suggestions for using the computer to facilitate language learning and exegetical work in order to help students develop the skills necessary to sustain their language skills with the aid of computer software when they are no longer engaged in formal study. A Handbook To Old Testament Exegesis written by William P. Brown and has been published by Westminster John Knox Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-03-17 with Religion categories.

Designed for both Hebrew and non-Hebrew students, A Handbook to Old Testament Exegesis offers a fresh, hands-on introduction to exegesis of the Old Testament. William P. Brown begins not with the biblical text itself but with the reader, helping students to identify their own interpretive lenses before engaging the biblical text. Brown guides the student through a wide variety of interpretive approaches, including modern methodologiesâ€"feminist, womanist, Latino/a, queer, postcolonial, disability, and ecological approachesâ€"alongside more traditional methods. This allows students to critically reflect on themselves as bona fide interpreters. While covering a wide range of biblical passages, Brown also highlights two common biblical texts throughout the work to help show how each interpretive approach highlights different dimensions of the same texts. Students will appreciate the value of an empathetic inquiry of Scripture that is both inclusive of others and textually in-depth.

New Testament Textual Criticism And Exegesis written by Joël Delobel and has been published by Peeters Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002 with Language Arts & Disciplines categories.

For many years, Professor Joel Delobel has served as a member of the Department of Biblical Studies of the Faculty of Theology, K.U. Leuven (1969-2001). His research has tended to focus on Luke-Acts, Pauline Literature and especially Textual Criticism (he is a member of Das Institut fur Neutestamentliche Textforschung, Munster). His friends and colleagues in the Department of Biblical Studies of the Faculty of Theology and elsewhere have honoured him with a Festschrift on the occasion of his retirement. The congratulatory volume deals with an issue that is dear to him: the mutual link between textual criticism and exegesis, which he himself once referred to as the 'Siamese twins'. A number of international scholars in the field of textual criticism have treated different aspects of this relationship. Some contributions are of a more general nature: B. Aland deals with the criteria used to judge the value of smaller New Testament Papyrus fragments, J. Lust compares the textual critical investigation of the Old Testament to that of the New, W.L. Petersen studies the earliest form of the text of the Gospel. Other contributions are related to a specific text: Mt 21,28-32 (J.K. Elliott); Mk 16,8 (C. Focant); Lk 7,42b (T. Baarda); Lk 22, 43-44 (C.M. Tuckett); Lk 24,12 (F. Neirynck); Jn 4,1 (G. Van Belle); Jn 12,31 (M.-E. Boismard); Jn 16,13 (R. Bieringer); Acts 15,20.29; 21,25 (C.-B. Amphoux); Rom 16,7 (E.J. Epp); Rom 16,25-27 (R.F. Collins); 1 Cor 2,1 (V. Koperski); The Epistle of James (D.C. Parker); Rev 13,9-10 (J. Lambrecht) and Rev 13,18 (J.N. Birdsall); J. Verheyden deals with the New Testament text in the 2nd Century, more specifically in the writings of Justin.
