Excerpt from The Family History of Herman Frederick Reemsnyder and His Descendants At the Nineteenth Annual Reunion of the Reemsnvder family held Saturday, August 12, 1905, at the home of Peter Holl it was unanimously decided to publish a family history. A Committee consisting of Rev. B. E. Reemsnyder, Clinton C. Reemsnyder and Samuel Holl was elected to have full charge of the work. The Committee after spending more than two years in strenuously endeavoring to find out all the facts from all the relatives is now ready to make its report and to cease from its labors. To write a family history is by no means an easy task, and to publish one without errors and entirely satisfactory to all is an absolute impossibility. Some families were not heard from, others sent in only meager portions of their history. Since the Committee was writing a history and not a book of fiction, it could only record what was reported to it. The same information was sought of all; the book will tell how freely all responded. A few reported far more than is found in this history. There are three reasons why such reports were condensed: (1). Parts of these reports had too much local coloring for a book which will go from Pennsylvania to Washington and from Dakota to Louisiana. (2) The price, and so necessarily the size of the book, was considered. (3.) In only a few cases did this occur and it was not deemed wise to give much more space to one than to an) other of the same generation. The plan followed in the arranging of the families may: be new, but with a little care, you will find it comparatively easy to understand.
