"The aim of this study is to provide a conceptual mine design and operating cost estimates to an accuracy of ± 30%. This study will look at all alternative means of access, mining method, ventilation, materials handling, water reticulation and personnel levels. The project will also carry some financial analysis to support the viability of an underground operation. It must be stated at this point that the various design freedoms and limitations are afforded and imposed respectively by the provider of this project, Argyle Diamond Mines PTY L TY. The motivation behind this project was to provide a fresh, unbiased solution to this particular operation. Hence the approach taken in this report may not necessarily be the most technically or economically suitable for this particular project. It may however, provide some aspects of which a potential future operation can draw upon and develop into a suitable component of the mine plan. It was endeavoured to plan a mine layout that will not only unhinder a future Block caving operation, but in fact aid it by the utilisation of segments of the development put in place for the southern tail operation (particularly the decline).
