Excerpt from The Female Review: Life of Deborah Sampson, the Female Soldier in the War of Revolution; With an Introduction and Notes Viewed in this light, the story of Deborah Sampson will be found worthy of attentive consideration. It is sufficiently roman tic in itself; but, considered as a tale of Revolutionary times, it is entitled to special regard. It affords, to some extent, a picture of those times, and opens before us scenes of trial and hard ship, of patriotism and fortitude, that enable us better to con ceive of that great conflict. Excerpt from The Female Review: Life of Deborah Sampson, the Female Soldier in the War of the Revolution; With an Introduction and Notes We have been fortunate in discovering among the members of the D. A. R. One who is a direct descendant of Deborah Sampson, and from whom we have received the family tree which appears in the Appendix. This lady is Miss Amy Greer Thompson of New York, a great-great-granddaughter of our heroine, and the only member of the D. A. R. Who belongs to the Society as representing a female soldier. Others have been admitted as descendants of patriotic women, who rendered substantial services to the cause of Independence, but no one of them can point to a regularly-en listed woman soldier as her ancestor. We regret that the steel plate of Deborah Sampson's portrait cannot now be found, though known to be in Dedham a few years ago; and we are therefore obliged to be content with a half-tone reproduction from the original print. Accessible, fun and compelling, and based on more than three decades of research, The Female Brain will help women to better understand themselves - and the men in their lives. In this groundbreaking book, Dr Louann Brizendine describes the uniquely flexible structure of the female brain and its constant, dynamic state of change - the key difference that separates it from that of the male - and reveals how women think, what they value, how they communicate, and whom they'll love. She also reveals the neurological explanations behind why... - A woman remembers fights that a man insists never happened... - Thoughts about sex enter a woman's brain perhaps once every couple of days, but may enter a man's brain up to once every minute... - A woman's brain goes on high alert during pregnancy - and stays that way long after giving birth... - A woman over 50 is more likely to initiate divorce than a man... - Women tend to know what people are feeling, while men can't spot an emotion unless someone cries or threatens them with bodily harm!
