The Femmenstruation Rites Rag written by Brackin Firecracker and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2000 with Feminists categories.

This unstapled, extended compilation zine with over fifty contributors from 2000 was compiled by Brackin Firecracker, a feminist zinester whose love of menstruation is the centerpiece for the zine. The contributors touch on all aspects of radical menstruation, from free-flowing blood, to alternative menstrual products like the Keeper and Gladrags, to moon cycle orienting of the menstrual cycle. Brackin cites extensively from Inga Muscio's Cunt, and also from other positive-menstruation zines and books like Wives Tales, Plastic Vagina, The Period Conspiracy, Blessing of the Blood, and Blood, Bread, and Roses: How Menstruation Created the World. Other topics include menstrual calendars, Toxic Shock Syndrome and advising against tampon use, first period stories, support for queer and transgender communities, a reflection on Anne Frank and one on Kathy Acker, DIY cloth pad instructions, the importance of "moon lodges" for women, and an extended section on cures for cramps that mostly describe herbal cures for cramping and dysmenorrehea. In challenging many stereotypes of cleanliness and the "feminine hygiene industry," the author encourages artistic expression like performance art about menstruation and paintings made with menstrual blood. Cartoons are reprinted from World War III, Our Bodies Ourselves, and also include original submissions.

"Chris Bobel is a careful ethnographer, respectful of research participants, and while she clearly takes a stand on menstrual activism, she handily defends her proposition that feminism is `finding its balance between reliving its past and creating its future.' Bobel's work, which includes incisive analysis of how third-wave, activists incorporate and update tactics and strategies of the second wave, will be a welcome addition to the scholarship of feminism." The Routledge Handbook of Anthropology and Reproduction is a comprehensive overview of the topics, approaches, and trajectories in the anthropological study of human reproduction. The book brings together work from across the discipline of anthropology, with contributions by established and emerging scholars in archaeological, biological, linguistic, and sociocultural anthropology. Across these areas of research, consideration is given to the contexts, conditions, and contingencies that mark and shape the experiences of reproduction as always gendered, classed, and racialized. Over 39 chapters, a diverse range of international scholars cover topics including: Reproductive governance, stratification, justice, and freedom. Fertility and infertility. Technologies and imaginations. Queering reproduction. Pregnancy, childbirth, and reproductive loss. Postpartum and infant care. Care, kinship, and alloparenting. This is a valuable reference for scholars and upper-level students in anthropology and related disciplines associated with reproduction, including sociology, gender studies, science and technology studies, human development and family studies, global health, public health, medicine, medical humanities, and midwifery and nursing.

Gendered Bodies written by Judith Lorber and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007 with Social Science categories.

For centuries the biological sciences have dissected, measured, and probed the human body as a product of nature. But from a feminist perspective, the human body is a social production. Human bodies are shaped and controlled by the norms and expectations of gendered social orders, intersected by racial, class, religious, and age norms and expectations. The result is a gendered body produced for a gendered social world. In this concise text with readings, designed for undergraduate students, Lorber and Moore present feminist contributions to social and cultural studies of the human body, showing the construction of gendered bodies in different contexts. The authors argue that the ideology of the perfect body is a powerful means of social control for girls and boys as well as women and men. The authors show how children's bodies are gendered through games and sports - and shaped and modified throughout adulthood to meet social expectations. Each chapter includes a list of key concepts, three readings, recommended books and articles, and Internet sources. For the instructor, the book includes class exercises and a list of films with somatic themes.

Into Our Own Hands written by Sandra Morgen and has been published by Rutgers University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002 with Medical categories.

Recent history has witnessed a revolution in womens health care. Beginning in the late 1960s, women in communities across the United States challenged medical and male control over womens health. Few people today realize the extent to which these grassroots efforts shifted power and responsibility from the medical establishment into womens hands as health care consumers, providers, and advocates. Into Our Own Hands traces the womens health care movement in the United States. Richly documented, this study is based on more than a decade of research, including interviews with leading activists; documentary material from feminist health clinics and advocacy organizations; a survey of womens health movement organizations in the early 1990s; and ethnographic fieldwork. Sandra Morgen focuses on the clinics born from this movement, as well as how the movements encounters with organized medicine, the state, and ascendant neoconservative and neoliberal political forces of the 1970s to the1980s shaped the confrontations and accomplishments in womens health care. The book also explores the impact of political struggles over race and class within the movement organizations.
