The remarkable story behind the planning, development and marketing of Laurel and Hardy's ill-received final film, Atoll K, has been little explored. Details on the script development, cast, crew, locations, and even basic information on running times and release dates have been sketchy at best since the film's 1951 release. This work reconstructs the circumstances surrounding this unusual international co-production (Atoll K was a French-Italian film with English-speaking stars). Through lost documents detailing the film's production and funding, previously unreleased behind-the-scenes photos, and a rare interview with French movie star Suzy Delair, the author explores the continuous changes to the film's script during its chaotic production and the final marketing of the film's many different versions (Atoll K was also released as Robinson Crusoeland in the United Kingdom and as Utopia in the United States). Several appendices detail alternative sequences and cut scenes in various versions of the film and include French box-office reports from 1951 to 1952 as well as a complete filmography.

These stories saw the light when the author was around 40 satisfying the writing urge he had always had. Having tried his hand at several literary genres, he settled on writing short stories. Moving away from socio-psychological or pseudo auto-biographical fiction, he concentrated on writing stories that do not use traditional narrative or plots. The stories are literary ventures, playing with literary devices, the fiercely fantastic, or magic realist. A series of houses that envelope a story each. A set of painters that contravene the principles of the Golden Ratio, Phi. A crab and its habits. A festival of laughter. A man whose life is encumbered with non-psychological and non-social difficulties. An afternoon spent by 4 unusual companions. Government exercises that leave citizens breathing with peace. A scarab and how to make one. A prisoner who subverts the offer of a last wish. Some are half a page long while others go up to 10 pages.

The Cardiff Five written by Satish Sekar and has been published by Waterside Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-11-15 with Political Science categories.

This fresh edition of Satish Sekar’s classic work brings events up to date as at 2017 and includes matters that the author was prevented from publishing sooner. Among other things it deals with the collapse of the 2011 trial of police officers and others concerning the original miscarriage of justice in this case and in a new Epilogue calls for a Truth and Justice Commission. The author shows how this extreme miscarriage of justice destroyed families, divided communities and undermined confidence in the criminal justice system. The book takes the reader from the sadistic killing of Lynette White in Cardiff in 1988, via the subsequent investigation and trial to the aftermath of the folding of the 2011 trial over ‘lost’ documents that later materialised. But above all it deals with the hard scientific facts of the first vindication case of the DNA-age.

The Great Books written by Anthony O'Hear and has been published by Simon and Schuster this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-10-17 with Literary Criticism categories.

"An illuminating, learned, well-written, and entertaining survey of the giants of world literature. Busy people, and especially the young, will be grateful for this useful and concise introduction." —Paul Johnson Not simply a grand work of reference, The Great Books is a captivating journey through two-and-a-half millennia of the great Western tradition. The eminent British philosopher Anthony O'Hear is our capable tour guide, taking readers on an exhilarating tour through 2,500 years of books as powerful, thrilling, erotic, politically astute, and awe-inspiring as any modern bestseller. The Great Books is a fascinating narrative that encompasses history, myth, art, music, theater, and more. O'Hear sweeps us along from Homer's Iliad to Goethe's Faust, covering much ground in between. In Homer's poems of epic struggle we discover not only the fascination and pleasure we can derive, but also why these works became the fountainhead of Western literature. From Greek tragedy we feel the power of the ancient myths, while from Plato's Death of Socrates we see what may have killed off the tragic spirit. In Virgil's Aeneid we ponder the close connections to—and puzzling contrasts with—Homer; in Dante's terrifying and sublime Divine Comedy we encounter Virgil once again, this time as mentor and guide through Hell; and in Milton's phantasmagoric Paradise Lost we find the Christian story given epic shape and power. And of course, in Shakespeare we experience the great dramatist's particular and incomparable genius. There is much more beyond—from Ovid and Augustine to Chaucer and Cervantes, Pascal and Racine. The Great Books is a spirited and enlightening guide to the great works of the Western tradition, shot through with a love of literature and the author's deeply held belief in its power to enrich and enliven everyone's world.
