Manned space programs attract the most media attention, and it is not hard to understand why: the danger, the heroism, the sheer adventure we as earthbound observers can imagine when humans are involved. But robotic missions deserve a respectful and detailed history and analysis of their own, and this book provides it. Instead of describing one specific spacecraft or mission, Michel van Pelt offers a "behind the scenes" look at the life of a space probe from its first conceptual design to the analysis of the scientific data returned by the spacecraft.

Soviet Robots In The Solar System written by Wesley T. Huntress, JR. and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-06-28 with Science categories.

Soviet Robots in the Solar System provides a history of the Soviet robotic lunar and planetary exploration program from its inception, with the attempted launch of a lunar impactor on September 23, 1958, to the last launch in the Russian national scientific space program in the 20th Century, Mars 96, on November 16, 1996. This title makes a unique contribution to understanding the scientific and engineering accomplishments of the Soviet Union’s robotic space exploration enterprise from its infancy to its demise with the collapse of the Soviet Union. The authors provide a comprehensive account of Soviet robotic exploration of the Solar System for both popular space enthusiasts and professionals in the field. Technical details and science results are provided and put into an historical and political perspective in a single volume for the first time. The book is divided into two parts. Part I describes the key players and the key institutions that build and operate the hardware, the rockets that provide access to space, and the spacecraft that carry out the enterprise. Part II is about putting these pieces together to enable space flight and mission campaigns. Part II is written in chronological order beginning with the first launches to the Moon. Each chapter covers a particular period when specific mission campaigns were undertaken during celestially-determined launch windows. Each chapter begins with a short overview of the flight missions that occurred during the time period and the political and historical context for the flight mission campaigns, including what the Americans were doing at the time. The bulk of each chapter is devoted to the scientific and engineering details of that flight campaign. The spacecraft and payloads are examined with as much technical detail as is available today, the progress is described, and a synopsis of the scientific result is given.

(2) Robotic spacecraft In the future, the first space robots will possible be spacecraft and probes and the main goals of these machines was the Moon or Mars surface aiming manned missions to the Earth natural satellite. The capability of these robotic spacecraft included photographing and recording the surface and sending television images to the Earth. The first robotic spacecraft will send to the Moon had not even the capability to land in the surface. They were lunar impact robotic spacecraft. Television images were obtained and send to the Earth when falling down on the Moon. Other robotic space achievements by using probes were directed to Nenus, Mars and Mercury, Jupiter and Saturn. However, space robotic spaceship will face these challenges to be solve if space scientists expect future space robotic spaceships can attempt to fly to Moon, even other planets to reach these any one of space planet destinations successfully. The challenges include that it supposes the space journey needs to reach the space region with Voyager 1 and the most distant planets with Voyager 2. The robots are needed to be the appropriate machines to substitute the astronauts in risky activities in the non-predictive dangerous space environment. How to design the artificial intelligent robot will be more important and will be a key issue for the future of space exploration? The orbital robot requires to solve these problems , such as radiation, strong temperature variation, micro-gravity environment and magnetic fields associated to some celestial bodies. Specially, for planetary exploration aspect of the robotic application includes surface exploration where the local gravity, soil characteristics, local pressure and atmosphere must be consideration. So, future space robotic tool development still needs to find solutions to deal these above challenges when it brings to space environment to be used.(3) Space navigation and long distant mobility In the future space stations need have robots to help them to repair when sudden accident occurrences to cause any one of space stations' machines to be damaged. In-space operations involve operations functionalities like in-space assembly, in-space inspection, in-space maintenance, extra-vehicular activities, and in-orbit scientific experiment. For example, planetary exploration robotic applications are remarkably operating on Mar surface. Space scientists predict the next 10 years, it is expected that the space robots for surface exploration be not constrained anymore by, navigation and long distance mobility to access to most locations on a planetary surface will be possible. On the other side, it is expected that ground based planning and visualization tools enable scientists from space ground station to interact with the space robots in the surface of celestial bodies. However, robotic performance at the level of a space suited human scientist is and will continue to be a major challenge. Anyway, the automation by using robots in space operation will bring the advent of space stations and orbital service. One of the most important accomplishment with an extraordinary space robot was the space shuttle series of spacecraft. Space shuttle can be considered future first space robotic shuttle can be provided series of spacecraft service. Thus, future space robotic shuttle can be considered in that if really implemented orbital servicing of grasping satellite for maintenance, and assembly for the international space station and inserting new satellite into low Earth orbit.
