In the spirit of medieval writer Chaucer, all human activity lies within the artist’s scope, the History of Man Series uses medicine as a jumping off point to explore precisely that, all history, all science, all human activity since the beginning of time. The jumping off style of writing takes the reader, the listener into worlds unknown, always returning to base, only to jump off again. History of Man are stories and tales of nearly everything. The Fourth History of Man continues with virus infections where The Third History of Man left off hashing-out those specks of genetic schmutz, covering the R-naught of those naughty infectious scoundrels. Some big hitters will be considered, from polio and the famous celebrities that had it, through fifty shades of hepatitis, rabies and the hair of the dog, and the monkey business of HIV and AIDS. Leaving viruses, we’ll delve into a study of parasites, including the parasite of all parasites, Sigourney Weaver’s alien. Opening up a can-of-worms we’ll launch a nerd rumble: who would win between Weaver’s Alien and Schwarzenegger’s Predator. Other topics include the sociology of a social death preceding the actual death, the sociology of sexual cannibalism, and the sociology of colors, not just of yellow fever, but of other emotions under the rainbow, hopefully not making you feel positively blue. On the science side we’ll flip the script on the infamous Krebs cycle fleeced of the boring jargon that usually flows from the lecture hall and our road will scrutinize nuclear bombs, nuclear footballs and weapons of mass destruction, the secret of Ondine’s curse, and lessons in global warming.

The jumping off style of writing takes the reader, the listener into worlds unknown, always returning to base, only to jump off again. History of Man are stories and tales of nearly everything. The Third History of Man leaves bacteria in the rear-view mirror and jumps to viruses and viral infections, the cold, the flu and COVID-19, not just another flu. We’ll cover epidemics, pandemics, and vaccines, the pox infections, and the Spock principle that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few ... or the one. From COVID and the rise of Zoom, we’ll venture into the rise of Homo sapiensand the fall of Neanderthals, the high sea adventures of Darwin aboard and the high sea adventures of dementia. Our travels will take us along the Silk Road and Spice Trade, another visit with the Age of Discovery when masted ships and European explorers went looking for that elusive sea route to the Far East, and looking for gold, annihilating huge swaths of indigenous Americans at every port of disembarkation, not by the pointy end of a sword, but by tiny infectious microbes. We’ll examine colonialism at its finest, the sordid European history of imperialism and the land grab into Africa and the New World Americas.

Excerpt from Sketches of the History of Man, Vol. 4 of 4 I begin with the principles of morality, such as ought to govern at all times, and in all nations. The present sketch accordingly is divided into two parts. In the first, the principles are unfolded; and the second is altogether historical. The hand of God is no where more visible, than in the nice adjustment of our internal frame to our situation in this world. An animal is endued with a power of self-motion ; and in performing animal functions, requires no external aid. This in particular is the cafe of man, the noblest of terrestrial beings. His heart beats, his blood circulates, his stomach digests, evacuations proceed, &c. &c. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. One of the world's preeminent historians and thinkers, Yuval Noah Harari challenges everything we know about being human. Earth is 4.5 billion years old. In just a fraction of that time, one species among countless others has conquered it: us. In this bold and provocative book, Yuval Noah Harari explores who we are, how we got here and where we're going. **ONE OF THE GUARDIAN'S 100 BEST BOOKS OF THE 21st CENTURY** PRAISE FOR SAPIENS: 'Jaw-dropping from the first word to the last... ANTHROPOGENY – The Esoteric History of Man’s Origin: This book and its contents devolve from four great questions :- Who are we? Where do we come from? Why are we here? Where do we go to from here? In this brilliantly written masterpiece, Dr. Baker has tried as far as possible to avoid a repetition of facts and figures given by The Secret Doctrine except where these are important in elucidating, confirming, contradicting or supporting some point of new detail. When H.P. Blavatsky wrote The Secret Doctrine, the great biological periods which we know so well today were not yet clearly defined in terms of age and extent. Also, by her own admission, many figures given by the Masters to her were inevitably altered in the process of being passed on to others for publication. Instead of loosely referring to time in terms of Rounds and Chains, Root Races and Sub-races, Dr. Baker has endeavoured by correlation, cross-checking and by final resort to questioning the Master Blavatsky directly, to give wherever possible time factors in terms of years, eras and periods. This has not been easy and may not always stand the closest of inspection, but it must be remembered that in eighty per cent of our investigations here, we are dealing with paralleling evolutions sometimes on three different planes at once. The march of science will steadily bring confirmation of broad outlines, correct minor errors, and add supplementary detail. No matter how abstruse, how surrounded with mystery the subject of Man's origin, we should remember the words of Paracelsus:- “Things that are considered now to be impossible will be accomplished; and that which is unexpected will in the future prove to be true, and that which is looked upon as superstition in one century will be the basis of the approved science of the next.” Many drawings, images, tables and references are included to make this fascinating subject more comprehensible to the student who is ready to seek the answers to the four great questions posed above.
