The world spins in economic turmoil, and who can tell what will happen next? Cold numbers and simple statistical projections don't take into account social, financial, or political factors that can dramatically alter the economic course of a nation or a region. In this unique book, more than twenty leading economists and experts render thorough, rigorously researched prognoses for the world's major economies over the next five years. Factoring in such varied issues as the price of oil, the strength of the U.S. dollar, geopolitics, tax policies, and new developments in investment decision making, the contributors ground their predictions in the realities of current events, political conditions, and the health of financial institutions in each national economy. The most comprehensive volume on the global economy available today, this book presents up-to-date research on Russia, Australia, Europe, sub-Saharan and South Africa, the major Asian economies, North America, and the largest economies of Latin America. With unsurpassed expertise, the authors explain what's going on in individual countries, how important current global issues will impact them, and what economic scenarios they most likely will face in upcoming years.

Economic growth and structural change - the future of the world economy - is analysed in this book. Conditional forecasts are given for the economic development of the most important world market countries till the year 2000. The driving forces of economic growth are identified and forecasted, in connection with collaborating scholars in most of these countries and with international organizations. This information is used in solving a coherent world model. The model consists of linked growth models for each country (or groups of countries). The solutions show that the inequality in international income distribution will further increase and that the CMEA and OECD countries will approximately keep their relative positions, with some changes within these groups. Structural change is also analysed. Additionally separate forecasts prepared by each collaborating country group are given and may be compared with the forecasts by the world model. The book closes with chapters on special features of the future economic development: on the international debt problem, on long waves, on structural change in the world trade, on the emergence of service economics and on the comparison of GDP and NMP national accounting.

The Global Economy In Transition written by Jørgen Ørstrøm Møller and has been published by World Scientific this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-06-28 with Business & Economics categories.

This book is a collection of essays written by Ambassador, Professor Jørgen Ørstrøm Møller from the middle of 2009 to end of 2012, commenting on global economic and political events, which reflect Moeller's judgment and evaluation on these issues. Readers get an overview to the collection of essays and the worldview they represent in an introductory chapter weaving together strands of economics, politics, and societal issues. Møller goes a step further by sketching up a picture of how a future economic model and political system may look — forged by debt, scarcities, economic integration, and the rise of Asia. Part I deals with global systems and possible long trends shaping the future over the coming decades, as the current political system and economic model, having run their course, come to an end. Part II discusses how the era of scarcities will change economic behaviour in terms of economic models. Part III looks into the global debt problem, which confines the world to low growth over one or two decades as the world tries to get rid of the debt burden. Part IV forms an analysis of what has happened in the Euro-zone and how the global debt crisis has compelled the Europeans to take the next steps in integration and address the shortcomings and flaws in the original treaty from 1992. Part V turns to Asia and its future in the global economy. It concentrates on Asian integration and how the Asian countries will fare in the future under much changed circumstances compared to how things looked when the Asian adventure started some 30–40 years ago. At the end, readers will find a short post-scriptum with some of Moeller's afterthoughts on the important issues discussed throughout the book. 'A fearless and important book . . . The End of Alchemy isn't just an elegant guide to the history of economic ideas. It also gives a genuine insider's account' Telegraph The past twenty years saw unprecedented growth and stability followed by the worst financial crisis the industrialised world has ever witnessed. In the space of little more than a year what had been seen as the age of wisdom was viewed as the age of foolishness. Almost overnight, belief turned into incredulity. Most accounts of the recent crisis focus on the symptoms and not the underlying causes of what went wrong. But those events, vivid though they remain in our memories, comprised only the latest in a long series of financial crises since our present system of commerce became the cornerstone of modern capitalism. Alchemy explains why, ultimately, this was and remains a crisis not of banking - even if we need to reform the banking system - nor of policy-making - even if mistakes were made - but of ideas. In this refreshing and vitally important book, former governor of the Bank of England Mervyn King - an actor in this drama - proposes revolutionary new concepts to answer the central question: are money and banking a form of Alchemy or are they the Achilles heel of a modern capitalist economy?
