James created these oil paintings of the landscape around Washington and Saratoga counties of New York. All were painted sur le motif. In the past twenty years the Adirondacks have inspired a resident population of writers who have gained regional and national prominence using the Adirondack region as their primary setting and subject matter—or at least as a significant point of departure.
