Gennero Giantonio is a powerful man who is accustomed to being in control of every situation. But life is not treating him with the respect he is accustomed to, and it's throwing him into a spin at the pinnacle of his very successful career. Upset and questioning whether the unexpected death of his grandson, Richie, was from an accidental overdose, as the police have determined, he needs to understand exactly what happened on that fateful day. He enlists the help of Grady, a volatile musician friend of Richie's, to help him get to the truth, no matter how disturbing it may be. In the grip of his grief, Gennero must also deal with two tragedies in his immediate family: his beloved sister, Maria, has recently learned that she has cancer. And, Tessie, his wife of fifty-five years has become delusional and paranoid, a situation he is in no way prepared to handle. Gennero is uncharacteristically lost as his carefully regulated life is quickly spinning out of control. For the first time in his life, he feels confused and overwhelmed. While Gennero is coping with these family problems, Grady uncovers the mystery of Richie's death, and in the process, solves important issues in his own life, including those which have been interfering with his developing a deeper relationship with his girlfriend, Karen. This suspenseful psychological family drama takes place during one fast-paced and hectic week.

Principles Of Cancer Biotherapy written by Robert K. Oldham and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-08-29 with Medical categories.

At the time of the first edition of Principles of Cancer Biotherapy in 1987, this book represented the first comprehensive textbook on biological therapy. In 1991, when the second edition was published, there was still some doubt on the part of many oncologists and cancer researchers as to the therapeutic value of these new approaches. By 2003 and the fourth edition, it was generally agreed that biopharmaceuticals were producing major opportunities for new cancer therapies. Cancer biotherapy has now truly matured into the fourth modality of cancer treatment. This fifth revised edition describes the tremendous progress that has been made in recent years using biologicals in cancer treatment. This book summarizes an evolving science and a rapidly changing medical practice in biotherapy. In this new millennium, it is now possible to envision a much more diversified system of cancer research and treatment that will afford greater opportunities for a patient’s personalized cancer treatment. This was first envisioned in the 1987 initial edition of this textbook and is now a “new” and popular approach to cancer treatment. Some forms of cancer biotherapy use the strategy of tumor stabilization and control through continued biological therapy, akin to the use of insulin in the treatment of diabetes. This textbook illustrates new methods of thinking and new strategies for control of cancer. It is always difficult to move from past dogma to future opportunity, but this fifth edition of Principles of Cancer Biotherapy illustrates why it is so important to the patients for researchers and clinicians to explore and quickly apply these new opportunities in cancer biotherapy.

This book is intended as a useful resource for physicians, scientists, medical students, and allied health personnel in the disciplines of radiology, gastroenterology, surgical oncology, medical onc- ogy, radiation oncology, and pathology. Renowned contributors from different medical d- ciplines have written their chapters in a thoughtful, provocative, and visual fashion. Importantly, these chapters highlight the controversies in the diagnostic, staging, and the- peutic management of patients with rectal cancer while providing practical management recommendations. This book is divided into 18 chapters. Early chapters address the diagnosis and staging of rectal cancer, highlighting the critical role of contemporary imaging in guiding treatment. The remaining chapters focus on the multimodality management of rectal cancer from the vantage points of surgery, pathology, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. The major dev- opments in surgery are reviewed first, including contemporary roles of local excision, total mesorectal excision, lateral pelvic lymph node dissection, organ preservation approaches, as well as the management of advanced, recurrent, and metastatic disease. Following is a ch- ter describing the pathologic evaluation of rectal cancer specimens, with emphasis on proper methodology and its clinical relevance to overall disease management. The final chapters review the contemporary roles of chemotherapy (including with radiation therapy, adjuvant and neoadjuvant settings without radiation therapy, as well as in metastatic disease) as well as radiation therapy (including adjuvant and neoadjuvant approaches, short vs.
