The Globalization Paradox written by Dani Rodrik and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-05-17 with Political Science categories.

For a century, economists have driven forward the cause of globalization in financial institutions, labour markets, and trade. Yet there have been consistent warning signs that a global economy and free trade might not always be advantageous. Where are the pressure points? What could be done about them? Dani Rodrik examines the back-story from its seventeenth-century origins through the milestones of the gold standard, the Bretton Woods Agreement, and the Washington Consensus, to the present day. Although economic globalization has enabled unprecedented levels of prosperity in advanced countries and has been a boon to hundreds of millions of poor workers in China and elsewhere in Asia, it is a concept that rests on shaky pillars, he contends. Its long-term sustainability is not a given. The heart of Rodrik’s argument is a fundamental 'trilemma': that we cannot simultaneously pursue democracy, national self-determination, and economic globalization. Give too much power to governments, and you have protectionism. Give markets too much freedom, and you have an unstable world economy with little social and political support from those it is supposed to help. Rodrik argues for smart globalization, not maximum globalization.

For most people except the world’s very richest, globalization is failing–catastrophically. If we don’t act, its failure will lead to a global upheaval worse than any in human history. But there’s another, better path. Isaak shows how a new globalization can give the poor a powerful stake, both here and abroad. Isaak's ideas can lead toward a more stable, peaceful world, in which we can all build our futures–rich and poor alike.

"Neoliberal globalization was finally consolidated in the 1990s. Understanding how it works and what it threatens for the future has become a crucial necessity, not only in the impoverished 'South' but also in the affluent 'North'. The pathbreaking analyese collected in this book, written as the globalization decade unfolded, grasp the radical nature of globalization in a way still unmatched by orthodox commentaries: not as a mere series of 'reforms' but as a worldwide transformation of all aspects of life to conform with capitalism's ruthless logic." -- BACK COVER.
