The Land Rover 'engine' and two of the carriages were retired to a farm paddock not far from Victor Harbor in 1986, when rails were re-laid on the Granite Island causway and the Horse Tram was re-introduced to continue providing easy access to the island and its attractions." Beginning in 2012, The Southern Fleurieu Historical Museum under the supervision of Lindsay McCorie and John Fuller began restoration work on the Granite Island Train.
