As the world approaches the middle of the twenty-first century, octogenarians Donald Lasserman and Richard Adamo maintain unbridled hope and vision for a more promising future. They unite several retired world leaders, including a former nemesis, to brainstorm ideas for a better world. While this happens, Donald’s self-made billionaire nephew, Nate, goes up against a terrorist kidnapping in the Panamanian rainforest and a coup in Cuba. Packed with intellectual stimulation and thrilling action, hopefully the content highlighted in this book will prompt readers to consider solutions and improvements for our everyday lives. This is the author’s second fiction work, following The Great Divorce (2018). While a sequel, it is also an entry point if you pay attention to the prologue. This book builds on the chaos of the first, fostering ideas and dreams for a more united and civilized world.

Few other nations have undergone as profound a change in their social, political, and cultural life as Mongolia did in the twentieth century. Beginning the century as a largely rural, nomadic, and tradition-oriented society, the nation was transformed by the end of this century into a largely urban, post-industrial, and cosmopolitan one. This study seeks to understand the effects that Western-inspired modernity has had on the nature of cultural tradition in the country, focusing in particular on development of the morin khuur or "horse-head fiddle," a two-stringed bowed folk lute that features a horse’s head carved into its crown. As well as being one of the most popular instruments in the contemporary national musical culture, it has also become an icon of Mongolian national identity and a symbol of the nation’s ancient cultural heritage. In its modern form, however, the horse-head fiddle reflects the values of a modern, cosmopolitan society that put it profoundly at odds with those of the traditional society. In so doing, it also reflects the cosmopolitan nature of the nation’s contemporary national musical culture.

Decline And Reimagination In Cinematic New York written by Cortland Rankin and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-09-02 with Performing Arts categories.

Decline and Reimagination in Cinematic New York examines the cinematic representation of New York from the mid-1960s through the mid-1980s, placing the dominant discourse of urban decline in dialogue with marginal perspectives that reimagine the city along alternative paths as a resilient, adaptive, and endlessly inspiring place. Drawing on mainstream, independent, documentary, and experimental films, the book offers a multifaceted account of the power of film to imagine the city’s decline and reimagine its potential. The book analyzes how filmmakers mobilized derelict space and various articulations of “nature” as settings and signifiers that decenter traditional understandings of the city to represent New York alternately as a desolate wasteland, a hostile wilderness, a refuge and playground for outcasts, a home to resilient and resourceful communities, a studio for artistic experimentation, an arcadia conducive to alternative social arrangements, and a complex ecosystem. This book will be of interest to scholars and students of film studies, media studies, urban cinema, urban studies, and eco-cinema.
