Essay from the year 2015 in the subject Mathematics - General, Basics, , language: English, abstract: In mathematics a green’s function is type of function used to solve inhomogeneous differential equations subject to specific initial conditions or boundary conditions. Green’s functions provide an important tool when we study the boundary value problem. They also have intrinsic value for a mathematician. Also green’s functions in general are distribution, not necessarily proper function. Green functions are also useful for solving wave equation, diffusion equation and in quantum mechanics, where the green’s function of the Hamiltonian is a key concept, with important links to the concept of density of states. In this project construction of green’s function in one and two dimension has shown. There are more then one way of constructing greens’ function (if it exist) but the result is always same. Due to this we can say that green’s function for a given linear system is unique.

Since its introduction in 1828, using Green's functions has become a fundamental mathematical technique for solving boundary value problems. Most treatments, however, focus on its theory and classical applications in physics rather than the practical means of finding Green's functions for applications in engineering and the sciences. Green's

Green's Functions and Infinite Products provides a thorough introduction to the classical subjects of the construction of Green's functions for the two-dimensional Laplace equation and the infinite product representation of elementary functions. Every chapter begins with a review guide, outlining the basic concepts covered. A set of carefully designed challenging exercises is available at the end of each chapter to provide the reader with the opportunity to explore the concepts in more detail. Hints, comments, and answers to most of those exercises can be found at the end of the text. In addition, several illustrative examples are offered at the end of most sections. This text is intended for an elective graduate course or seminar within the scope of either pure or applied mathematics.

This book is comprehensive in its classical mathematical physics presentation, providing the reader with detailed instructions for obtaining Green's functions from scratch. Green's functions is an instrument easily accessible to practitioners who are engaged in design and exploitation of machines and structures in modern engineering practice. To date, there are no books available on the market that are devoted to the Green's function formalism for equations covered in this volume. The reader, with an undergraduate background in applied mathematics, can become an active user of the Green's function approach. For the first time, Green's functions are discussed for a specific class of problems dealing with potential fields induced in thin-wall structures and therefore, the reader will have first-hand access to a novel issue. This Work is accessible to researchers in applied mathematics, mechanics, and relevant disciplines such as engineering, as well as to upper level undergraduates and graduate students.

Excerpt from On the Green's Function for Two-Dimensional Magnetohydrodynamic Waves I Green's function as a distribution inverting its Fourier transform obtained from the partial differential equations. The interpretation as a distribution is essential as we shall have to evaluate many singular integrals and the Green's function itself is not integrable considered as an ordinary function. This revised and updated Second Edition of Green's Functions and Boundary Value Problems maintains a careful balance between sound mathematics and meaningful applications. Central to the text is a down-to-earth approach that shows the reader how to use differential and integral equations when tackling significant problems in the physical sciences, engineering, and applied mathematics. Ivar Stakgold incorporates developments that have altered the field of applied mathematics in recent decades-particularly in areas of modeling, Fourier analysis, fixed-point theorems, inverse problems, asymptotics, and nonlinear methods. This modernized text, however, retains the many features that made its predecessor one of the most successful graduate-level texts of its kind, including: A unique blend of topics A balanced discussion of theory and applications 44 illustrations and numerous practical examples that supplement the text Chapter introductions and clear explanations of basic concepts Plentiful exercises, many of which are new to this edition Green's Functions and Boundary Value Problems is an ideal text for a modern course in applied mathematics designed for students in the physical sciences, engineering, and mathematics. It is also an excellent reference for practicing professionals in these areas.

Green S Functions In The Theory Of Ordinary Differential Equations written by Alberto Cabada and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-11-29 with Mathematics categories.

This book provides a complete and exhaustive study of the Green’s functions. Professor Cabada first proves the basic properties of Green's functions and discusses the study of nonlinear boundary value problems. Classic methods of lower and upper solutions are explored, with a particular focus on monotone iterative techniques that flow from them. In addition, Cabada proves the existence of positive solutions by constructing operators defined in cones. The book will be of interest to graduate students and researchers interested in the theoretical underpinnings of boundary value problem solutions.
