"The current population youth bulge in Africa highly commends the timeliness of this insightful publication, focusing on the life stories of young people who have persevered to surmont interminable difficulties in order to make something of their future. The powerful messages conveyed in the publication are of relevance not only to the youth of Africa who should be motivated by these worthy role models to also teach for the skies. The conviction that problems can be overcome, no matter the odds. It should equally convert policy makers to more proactively co-opt the energies of the youth, in order to unleash their latent potential, towards accelerated political and economic transformation of the continent. May there be more visionary luminaries like Olubanke King-Akerele in Africa's search for progress." -Dr. Mary Chinery-Hesse, Member of the Panel of the wise of the AU, Former Chief Advisor to the President of the Republic of Ghana & Deputy DG of the International Labor Organization (Retired) This book "Growing" of Africa's Emergent Leadership offers more than a mere publication about Africa's Youth and improvement programs. Even though they are without doubt the backbone of Africa's further expansion, Olubanke King-Akerele's work on the "Growing" of Africa's Emergent Leadership is both inspiring and exceptional, just as Olubanke herself. But above all, she is a visionary and this is exactly what Africa needs. Africa is now leading continent, which needs visionaries to further strengthen it's position in the world. This book is an inspiration, not only for me, but for all people feeling passionate about Africa and the development of the youth and it delights me to support Olubanke and her work in every possible way.-Prof. Armoogum Parsuramen G.O.S.KFounder-President Global Rainbow Foundation Minister of Education Mauritius (1983-1995) Olubanke King-Akerele has produce a masterpiece work that is not only relevant for today's developmental challenges, but also very likely to stand the test of time. The strength of the work lies in the visionary apporach and superb analyses of the author, which is itself largely informed by her own personal and professional growth and experience both on the national stage, in Liberia and in the international arena, spanning more than three decades. Anyone truly interested in Africa's development more broadly, and in particular, how leadership could positively influence that development, must have a copy of this work, eloquently written by one of Africa's foremost scholar diplomats. -Lalla Aicha Ben-Barka, Assistant Director-General, Africa UNESCO, Paris. The "Growing" of Africa's Emergent Leadership, demonstrates a succinct style of impressive clarity, and focuses on the seriousness and legitimacy of Africa's next generation and the need for continuous cultivation of the continent's majority constituents. The organization of the book reflects Honourable King-Akerele's vast experience in youth development which inspired her writing. My unequivocal recommendation of the book rest in it's stimulating and exciting, yet challenging reality - a must read for youth of all ages and adults, especially governments and the private sector facing the challenge of youth development for eventual national leadership.Dr. Emmet Dennis, President of University of Liberia

This book outlines perspectives of emerging and established African scholars on what one could describe as the debate on leadership and the articulation of the life of the mind in Africa's socio-economic, political and cultural life from the time of independence to date. The papers contained in the book cover the following thematic areas: Alternative Leadership Paradigm for Africa's Advancement; African Perspectives on Globalisation and international relations; Pan-Africanism and the African Renaissance; Scientific, Technological and Cultural Dimensions of African Development. The first section deals with alternative leadership paradigms for Africa's advancement. It also debates the 'thin line' separating management studies from leadership studies and untangles the hermeneutic complexities in the term 'leadership'. Section two examines among other things, the crucial challenge of globalisation and public ethics and others African perspectives. The section also interrogates the current complexities and credibility deficits in the global governance of trade and towards the end engages philosophical questions about conscience and consciousness in African development and progress. The debates in section three continue to section four and focus on the overall issues of language and liberation, the significance of Multi-, Inter and Trans-Disciplinary Approaches in the analysis of the African continent, appropriate indigenous paradigms for promoting the African renaissance as well as a series of debates on the meaning and prospects of regional integration in Africa's renewal. This provides just a snapshot of a very wide ranging and interesting debate contained in the publication.

African Centred Management Education written by David N. Abdulai and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-04-01 with Business & Economics categories.

In African-Centred Management Education, Professor Abdulai looks critically at the failings of management education in Africa and how that has impacted growth and development efforts, especially at this critical stage in the continent’s positive growth and development trajectory. He concludes that Africa’s current positive economic growth cannot be sustained without a significant contribution from its human capital. He adds that, the outstanding economic record of Asian economies in recent decades dramatically illustrates how important human capital is to growth. These countries lacking natural resources and importing practically all their energy requirements have grown rapidly by relying on a well-trained, educated and conscientious workforce. Professor Abdulai believes that Africa, too, can sustain its current growth and development by effectively combining its abundant natural resources with its human capital to attain its economic development, but this will require an African cadre of well-trained managers at the helm of both private and public sector institutions. For this to become a reality, management education in Africa will have to play a significant role, but the author argues that it cannot be effective by continually mimicking the West in the programmes it delivers. It must come up with innovative and relevant pedagogy that will address the special challenges that the continent faces and deliver an African-centred management education. As well as pointing to the failures of management education in Africa, Abdulai offers suggestions as to how to make management education really contribute to the education of Africans, in order to sustain current and future development.

Management And Leadership For A Sustainable Africa Volume 2 written by Kemi Ogunyemi and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-11-16 with Business & Economics categories.

To effectively deliver sustainable management in practice for Africa, we need responsible leadership. We need to deepen our understanding of sustainability in the unique socio-political and economic context of the continent. The roles of various actors across public, private and non-profit sectors as enablers of sustainable development need to be explored to understand the social, economic and environmental (SEE) trends in Africa and its emerging and developing economies, as well as to chart the way forward for the continent. This second volume explores the roles and responsibilities of the players—leaders and followers—in the core, public purpose and business spheres in delivering sustainable development outcomes for Africa. Drawing on interviews, cases and extensive literature, this volume contributes to reflection on the leadership values and practices required for a sustainable Africa and the crafting of new policy approaches to address the development challenges such as environmental degradation, economic inequities and social exclusion in Africa. The African scope of the book is hinged on collaboration from authors across Africa and the inclusion of case stories from emerging economies in the five African subregions (East, West, North, Central and Southern Africa) within the chapters. The core message is that, to achieve effective and sustainable management and development for Africa, the practice of responsible leadership is critical.

Emerging Africa describes the too-often-overlooked positive changes that have taken place in much of Africa since the mid-1990s. In 17 countries, five fundamental and sustained breakthroughs are making old assumptions increasingly untenable: • The rise of democracy brought on by the end of the Cold War and apartheid • Stronger economic management • The end of the debt crisis and a more constructive relationship with the international community • The introduction of new technologies, especially mobile phones and the Internet • The emergence of a new generation of leaders. With these significant changes, the countries of emerging Africa seem poised to lead the continent out of the conflict, stagnation, and dictatorships of the past. The countries discussed in the book are Botswana, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Ethiopia, Ghana, Lesotho, Mali Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, São Tomé and Principe, Seychelles, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia.

This book is about accelerating Africas integration through the application of the growth triangle concept. Filled with rich experiences backed by research, this book is also a powerful account of how African countries border areas---many of which largely marginalized and clash points of conflicts---can be transformed into vibrant socio-economic security zones through local-regional development efforts. This book equally creates a necessary kind of working environment where micro-regionalism is given a significant role to play in addressing some of the protracted challenges associated with our continents larger groupings. A valuable piece of work and absolutely required reading for all of us (politicians, academics private sector, development practitioners, NGOS)
