Unrequited written by Lisa A. Phillips and has been published by Harper Collins this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-01-27 with Family & Relationships categories.

The summer Lisa A. Phillips turned thirty, she fell in love with someone who didn’t return her feelings. She became obsessed, following him around, calling him compulsively, and talking about him endlessly. One desperate morning, after she snuck into his apartment building, he picked up a baseball bat to protect himself and threatened to dial 911. Her unrequited love had changed her from a sane, conscientious college teacher and radio reporter into someone she barely recognized—someone who had taken her yearning much too far. In Unrequited, Phillips explores the tremendous force of obsessive love in women’s lives. She argues that it needs to be understood, respected, and channeled for personal growth—yet it also has the potential to go terribly awry. Interweaving her own story with frank interviews and in-depth research in science, psychology, cultural history, and literature, Phillips describes how romantic obsession takes root, grows, and strongly influences our thoughts and behaviors. Going beyond images of creepy, fatally attracted psychos, male fantasies of unbridled female desire, and the platitudes of self-help books, Phillips offers compelling insights to help any woman who has experienced unrequited obsessive love and been mystified and troubled by its grip. “An ingenious hybrid of memoir, case study, scientific inquiry, and intellectual history not only of unrequited love but of Love, full stop, with a capital L.”—Washington Post “There is no cure for the pain of rejection, although researchers are working on it. Until then, Phillips suggests we ‘honor passion by confining and using it instead of letting it diminish us.’”—Chicago Tribune

For those that have mastered the basics of memoir and wish to probe this brand of creative nonfiction further, Writing the Radical Memoir uses salient theories about memory and the self to challenge assumptions about how we remember and tell the truth of our lives when we write about it. Innovative in approach and making new critical ideas accessible, each chapter maps out the key principles of such writers as Barthes, Lacan, Derrida, Lewis Mehl-Madrona, Philippe Le Jeune and Joseph Campbell, invokes literary examples to show how other writers have mastered the idea before reflecting on how you can practically apply the theory to your writing. With original exercises and prompts for further reading that bridge the gap between the theoretical and how it might be put into practice, the book is attentive to the multiple facets of the genre of nonfiction writing generally, covering such topics as: - The writer/ reader contract - How to embark on a thematic/ symbolic exploration of themes and incidents in your life - How neuro-scientific theory can inform our understanding of memory and recall and what happens to our memories when we remember them - Character development and the ethics of writing about real people - How constructing your identity in memoir offers a chance to push back against traditional structures - That memoir might not be preservation of your past but a process of self-erasure - How J. M. Coetzee's Autrebiography trilogy challenges traditional biography By bringing together lived experience, post-structuralist and postmodernist theories, praxis and artistic vision as a unique approach to writing memoir, this book encourages you to think the self, how it is portrayed, created, erased and made strange through the process of writing and remembering.

Journey back to the time of the Ancient Matriarchial Order and discover how its rituals inspired patriarchy, authoritarianism, and the era of the supernatural hero. Learn how sexuality and the grisly rite of human sacrifice are at the core of Western religions and how barbarians were responsible for the major advances of Western civilization. Find out what qualities females must have to succeed as women and why our feminist ethos is based on popular misconceptions, how gender stereotyping creates greater injustices to males, why selfishness is vital to the development of conscience, why morality must be subjective, and more.

Jane Austen An Unrequited Love written by Dr Andrew Norman and has been published by The History Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-12-26 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

Jane Austen is regarded as one of the greatest novelists in the English literary canon, and recent film and television adaptations of her works have brought them to a new audience almost 200 years after her untimely death. Yet much remains unknown about her life, and there is considerable interest in the romantic history of the creator of Elizabeth Bennett and Mr Darcy. Andrew Norman here presents a fresh account of her life, breaking new ground by proposing that she and her sister, Cassandra, fell out over a young clergyman, who he identifies for the first time. He also suggests that, along with the Addison's Disease that killed her, Jane Austen suffered from TB. Written by a consummate biographer, Jane Austen: an Unrequited Love is a must-read for all lovers of the author and her works.

"The past is never dead. It is not even passed." Almost 75 years have gone by since the act of crime for which Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti were indicted, tried, convicted and executed on August 23, 1927. There have been excellent legal treatises and interesting, informative novels written on this subject. Perhaps, it is time for a non-legal and plain talk evaluation of the facts. There are events whose importance seems to transcend time and affects present and future generations. The effect of Sacco and Vanzetti is still with us and is one of those events that will remain. The ultimate judgment is the verdict of the people and rests with history. The Case of Sacco and Vanzetti extended publicly from May 5, 1920 to August 23, 1927, and be- yond. The questions that history is still seeking to answer are: Were these men properly indicted for the crime of murder and robbery? Would a review of the available facts, by reasonable persons, bring a different verdict with certainty? Was there evidence of a mistrial? Does a review of the facts, uncovered since the Trial of Sacco and Vanzetti, from May 31st through July 14, 1921, bring a different verdict? Were these men treated fairly by the system and by society? Are their families and all Americans owed some sort of debt from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and from the American System of Justice? Was there a silent and unspoken conspiracy? Has the time come for a re-evaluation of this matter; and adjudication, based on all the evidence now available. Will this be meaningful? No one can alter what has been.

The Poetization Of Metaphors In The Work Of Novalis written by Veronica Freeman and has been published by Peter Lang this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006 with Foreign Language Study categories.

The poet Friedrich von Hardenberg (Novalis) (1772-1801) exemplifies romantic ideals in his nostalgic yearning for spiritual fulfillment and, in doing so, invokes the language of authentic mystics. While romantics and mystics believe in the common goal of original union, the path toward wholeness has led them down separate roads, which, it may be argued, have converged only linguistically. This book, therefore, emphasizes the importance of examining metaphors in their respective traditions.
