The Lung Circulation, Volume 2: Pathologic Physiology and Therapy of Diseases considers the reactions of various cardiovascular and bronchopulmonary drugs for certain lung-related diseases. This book is organized into three sections encompassing 15 chapters that also cover the etiology of acute cardiopulmonary diseases and chronic pulmonary hypertension. The first section reviews the benefits of five pulmonary treatment options, including musculotropic vasodilators and vasoconstrictors; general anesthetics and adjuvants; antitussives, expectorants, and antiallergens; Digitalis, glycosides, and quinidine; and medical and surgical procedures. The second section describes the pathologic physiology and pathogenesis of some acute cardiopulmonary diseases, such as acute injuries, systemic shock, acute pulmonary edema, pulmonary embolism, and other localized pulmonary diseases. The third section surveys numerous studies on the chronic pulmonary hypertension. This book is directed toward pulmonologists.

The Pulmonary Circulation in Health and Disease covers the proceedings of a symposium purposed to create a more complete picture of the pulmonary circulation under normal and diseased conditions through the help of an interdisciplinary group of acknowledged experts. The book is divided into seven parts. The first part discusses morphology in relation to pulmonary circulation and includes an overview of the microscopic appearance of the pulmonary artery and the innervation of the pulmonary circulation, as well as the structure and infrastructure of the pulmonary microvasculature and the changes it undergoes. The second part concerns itself with the different pharmacological studies related to pulmonary circulation. The third part goes in-depth about concepts in pulmonary hemodynamics, such as its occlusion methods, its models based on anatomic and functional data, its active distribution, and gravity nondependent distribution of pulmonary blood flow; the fourth part on the other hand discusses pulmonary blood flow and gas exchange. The fifth part discusses pulmonary endothelial cells, its mechanisms, and its properties; the sixth and seventh parts cover the mechanisms of pulmonary hypertension. The text is recommended for basic scientists studying the lung and for clinicians such as cardiologists and pulmonologists. Those interested in the effects of alterations in lung function will also find this helpful.

The Lung Circulation deals with important aspects of the lung circulation, with emphasis on the physiology of the pulmonary and bronchial circulation and autonomic pharmacology. Topics covered range from the role of anoxia in pulmonary circulation to reflexes arising from the pulmonary circulation and neighboring structures. The release of chemical substances from the pulmonary and bronchial circulation is also discussed. This volume is comprised of 10 chapters and begins with a review of the influence of anoxia on pulmonary circulation as well as four pertinent effects of anoxemia, namely, respiratory stimulation; cardiac stimulation; systemic vasoconstriction and vasodilatation; and pulmonary vasoconstriction and vasodilatation). The following chapters focus on the regulation of bronchial circulation; autonomic nervous control of pulmonary circulation involving acetylcholine, anticholinesterases, and atropine; and the pharmacology of sympathomimetic drugs, sympathetic blocking drugs, ganglion stimulants, and blocking drugs. The final chapter is devoted to the pharmacology of the autonomic nervous system and considers drugs that stimulate chemoreflexes arising from the lung circulation, including veratrum alkaloids. This book will appeal to physiologists and pharmacologists.

This volume documents the proceedings of a symposium on "The Pulmonary Circulation" held at the Ettore Majorana Center for Scientific Culture, in Erice, Sicily, between 16th July and 21st July 1979. This was attended by about 200 participants drawn from Europe as a whole, but the majority were from Southern Europe. The discussion was recorded either in English or Italian and the tapes were reduced to a verbatim typescript by the Ente Nazionale Interpeti Congresso. The verbatim typescript has been edited using a few guiding principles as foliows: Titles and honorifics have been eliminated unless the 1. statement is addressed to a specific person. The style of the speakers in the discussion has been 2. preserved as far as possible and not reduced to a strictly grammatical format. 3. Where references to illustrations (e.g., on the blackboard) are made, the comments have been left unaltered and many are understandable. Removing them detracted from the sense. 4. The air of informality in the proceedings has been preserved so far as possible. 5. The responsibility for the discussion rests solely with the editors, and no contributor has had the opportunity of correcting whae he said. No manuscript was received from one participant, but the 6. discussion of his presentation has been included since it contains some points of substance. G. Cumming and G. Bonsignore v CONTENTS Functional Morphology of the Pulmonary 1 Circulation. ........ .
