Asthma is a chronic respiratory condition that affects millions of people worldwide. It is characterized by inflammation and narrowing of the airways, resulting in recurring episodes of wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and coughing. Understanding the causes, symptoms, and management strategies for asthma is crucial in effectively controlling the condition and improving the quality of life for those affected. Causes of Asthma: While the exact cause of asthma remains unknown, several factors contribute to its development. These factors include genetic predisposition, environmental triggers, respiratory infections during childhood, exposure to allergens (such as pollen, dust mites, or pet dander), occupational hazards (such as chemicals or fumes), and a history of allergies or eczema. Understanding these causes can help individuals identify potential triggers and take appropriate preventive measures. Symptoms of Asthma: Asthma symptoms can vary from mild to severe and may differ among individuals. The most common symptoms include wheezing (a whistling sound during breathing), coughing (especially at night or early in the morning), shortness of breath or rapid breathing, chest tightness, and a feeling of constriction in the airways. It's important to note that symptoms can fluctuate over time, and certain triggers, such as exercise, allergies, or exposure to cold air, may worsen them. Early recognition and understanding of these symptoms are vital for prompt diagnosis and effective management.

The Impact Of Asthma And Associated Factors On Health Related Quality Of Life In Adult Patients Of Asthma In The United States written by Raed Abdullah Alharbi and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017 with Asthma categories.

Background: Asthma is one of the most common chronic diseases that affect the airways in the lungs causing inflammation due to reacting to any infection or trigger that stimulate the asthma attack. Such a disease might be able to affect the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) including: activity limitations, physical health, and mental health of these adult patients in certain ways. Objectives: Since there is no clear research or study that gave an integrated comprehensive view of the impact of asthma along with different associated factors including: behavioral factors (smoking, frequency of smoking and quitting, exercise, health-routine checkup, and alcohol use), clinical factors (obesity, depressive disorder, diabetes, influenza and pneumonia vaccines), and socioeconomic factors (stress, healthcare coverage, income and education level) on HRQoL in adult patients in the United States, the overall goal of this research is designed to investigate this impact. Methodology: Data of this research is obtained from Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) 2014. Different statistical procedures and methods including: extracting data, descriptive analysis, inferential analysis, and predictive analysis would be preformed by using Statistical Analysis System Software (SAS) 9.4. Results: adult patients of asthma have activity limitations by 64.90%, physical health problems by 163.40%, and mental health problems by 163.53% more than adult healthy people. Smoking limits activity by 116.18% as well as increases physical and mental health problems by 19.12% and 40.41%. Also, other behavioral factors play great roles in HRQoL in adult patients of asthma. Obesity limits activity by 73.57% as well as increases physical and mental health problems by 41.50% and 17.20%. Also, other clinical factors play great roles in HRQoL in adult patients of asthma. Stress limits activity by 188.52% as well as increases physical and mental health problems by 90.17% and 157.20%. Also, other clinical factors play great roles in HRQoL in adult patients of asthma. Conclusion: Even if there are few associated factors that improve HRQoL in adult patients of asthma, the majority of these factors worsen HRQoL. Finally, it can be confirmed that these associated factors along with asthma can lead to poorer HRQoL in adult patients of asthma in the United States.

Difficult To Treat Asthma written by Sandhya Khurana and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-08-29 with Medical categories.

This book provides a practical, stepwise, evidence-based approach to effective management of patients with difficult to treat asthma. The impact of asthma on morbidity and healthcare utilization increases exponentially with severity. Severe refractory asthma accounts for less than 5% of all asthma. Its prevalence, however, is often overestimated as there are several other confounding factors that make asthma ‘difficult to treat’. Many novel (albeit expensive) therapies are now available and providers caring for patients with severe asthma are charged with selecting the best evidence treatment. This calls for complex and nuanced decision-making. Whether people with asthma gain and maintain control over their condition depends not only on the availability of effective drugs, but also multiple patient and healthcare provider behaviors. Therefore, now more than ever, it has become increasingly important to differentiate “difficult” from “severe refractory” asthma to allow identification of patients most likely to benefit from these therapies. This volume delves into the current understanding of mechanisms and increasingly recognized heterogeneity of this complex disease. It discusses a structured approach to identification and optimization of factors contributing to poor asthma control, including nonadherence, comorbidities and occupational/environmental triggers. The book includes ‘state of the art’ reviews on recent advances in traditional and targeted asthma therapies, as well as a glimpse into what the future may hold. Highlights include a comprehensive guide to management of severe asthma in children and pregnancy, as well as practical considerations to management of asthma based on different clinical phenotypes. Each chapter is authored by leading experts in the field who share their own clinical approach. This is an ideal guide for clinical pulmonologists and allergist/immunologists, as well as primary care providers, physician extenders in specialty practice, physicians in pulmonary/allergy training, and even industry partners.

This report provides a comprehensive review of approaches to measuring the impact of asthma on quality of life that can be used in population-based monitoring. It is concluded that no single measure can be used in all circumstances. Rather, selection from the range of alternative measures should be based on the specific monitoring task and the attributes that are most relevant to that task. This report is intended for use by policy makers, data agencies and researchers involved in measuring population health. While the main focus is on population monitoring in relation to asthma, the findings will be of interest to those whose focus is on other chronic diseases.
