Neither regarded as a proper domesticated breed nor a wild one, the desi dogs have many tempartments, ways of life and a natural hardiness to them that is spectacular when compared to a standardized dog breed. Living in the streets but within human settlement, these dogs are naturally selected with no direct intervention by humans. While certain highlights of these dogs, such as resistance to disease and adaptations to a wide variety of food are in plain terms, some highlights are not so easily visible. These include the quasi-independent nature of the dogs, personality quirks and even some social laws which are shaped by the human society. Being very close to the dogs in his native village in his young years, the author exposes his recollection to the readers.
