Welcome to the 8th chapter of The Journey. One thing I feel that needs to be mentioned about this book is how after editing these poems, it seemed like I was back at the beginning. While I was reading through this book prepping it for publication, it seemed almost as though I had never read them before. I experienced this same thing while publishing some of my first books. It's like this gift has always been far ahead of where I am. I've been blessed with various readers my writing connects with from many different ages and lifestyles across the world. My descriptive interpretations of visions and whispers have allowed readers to absorb the levels of thought I've transcended within and ultimately become one with the poems content.

While preparing this book for publication, I really began to think of just how much The Journey became my purpose. When I first started writing poetry around 15 years ago, I was simply trying to find a way to describe the emotions that were consuming me within at the time. My friend of 22 years committed suicide on Nov 18, 1993. After writing poems afterwards for a couple years, I had decided to create a 100-page book in order to keep a promise I'd made to Bill that his name would live on far past his death. I wondered if this 11th book would ever actually be completed. It contains the poems I've written over the last 8 years. It's hard to believe how Bills death became The Journey and how many different lives these poems have touched over the last 23 years. As with all of my books, this one is dedicated to the memory of a few special people. Sadly my Mother passed away in her sleep on July 10th, 2011. The life changing events came afterwards over the last 6 years including my own debilitating head injury reassures me that no matter what we face in life, every day is a new one. At the age of nine years, Dorcas Willis' parents took the pastorate of a small storefront church of about twenty-five people. She learned at an early age that when prayer is the cornerstone of a ministry, it is amazing what God can do. From that foundation, she watched God raise up a strong church. Both the church and Dorcas Willis grew up together. She watched God perform miracle after miracle, including the explosive growth of the church and the purchase of a beautiful ornate church building on the main street in town. She had a privileged upbringing. As she looks back, it was a combination of things that created the environment in which she grew up, the era of time, the geographical location, and the lack of an abundance of this world's goods. Necessity was viewed as "an opportunity for God to provide." Ministry was the center of her childhood and youth. She was privileged to be nurtured by a mother and father who were totally dedicated to prayer and "ministry." As a child, it was her privilege to have as her mentors and role models, those who dwelled in that secret place referred to by David in Psalm 91. Dorcas Willis' upbringing was not privileged from the standpoint of this world's wealth nor worldly fame but because of those who surrounded her, those who truly dwelled in the Secret Place of God's presence. The lesson she learned in growing up in a climate of prayer was that any interference with God's will and plan became null and void when prayer was made. Recently Dorcas Willis was privileged to speak to ministry leaders and share her experiences in several locations including Ireland and a missions trip to Ukraine. Because of the foundation of prayer through several generations, God has given her two sons who pastor thriving churches. Pastor Andrew J. Willis, who pastors in Houston, TX, and Pastor Dan Willis who pastors in the suburbs of Chicago, IL.
