Solving Kashmir is a treatise on the Kashmir imbroglio that gives a deep insight into the myriad facets of the dispute in the State of JandK. It brings into focus the historical perspective, the geo-strategic and geo-political imperatives, as also the interests of the world powers and other regional players especially Pakistan and to an extent China. This vital piece of real estate located in the under belly of the CARS and Russia gives access to Tibet, Afghanistan and Pakistan. JandK is strategically significant to India's existence as a nation. Historically, Kashmir has been an important gateway for marauders entering the country. Losing control of JandK would open up the floodgates again. Kashmir gives India access to the strategically significant countries around JandK. It is our jewel in the crown. The main players in the dispute namely, India and Pakistan have gone to war four times over the issue with Pakistan enduring humiliating defeats, including its partition with the creation of Bangladesh. Having failed in its conventional attempts to wrest Kashmir and still in search of its identity, Pakistan has exercised the low cost/ no cost proxy war option, exploiting the ethnic and religious sentiments of the local Kashmiris, as also drumming up support from religious fundamentalists internationally. The nuclear dimension adding to the tinder box forces the international community of nations to concentrate efforts to bring the two nations to the negotiating table and resolve the problem bilaterally in accordance with the Shimla Agreement, however, with no significant success. How long will India continue to bleed? and "Where do you go from here?" are questions that willcontinue to haunt India for years to come.

Among cataclysmic events that have shaped India’s post independence history, none compare with the conflict ‘in’ and ‘over’ the erstwhile princely state of Jammu and Kashmir. Kashmir is truly unique as not only is it the nub of the Indo-Pak feud, but also with her other adversary – China. Historically speaking, Kashmir has remained a frontline ever since the Great Game. In view of China’s growing outreach and the fact that Kashmir’s occupied territory link both India’s adversaries, it portends volatility in the India-Pakistan-China triangular relationship. Brig Amar Cheema’s well–researched endeavour recounts the Kashmir imbroglio beyond episodic accounts but by providing the record in continuum; provides a broader perspective. The Crimson Chinar delivers a blow-by-blow account of the many ‘wars,’ and continues the narrative through the phases of ‘No War-No Peace,’ ‘insurgency’ and ‘limited war’ that have progressively ravaged the state. The context and geo-strategic environment has been re-created based on in-depth research and captured the rationale of the times. The important take away being; ‘wherever’ and ‘whenever’ India has responded ‘pro-actively’ and with determination, results have been significantly different; 1965, 1971 and Siachen being prime examples. With myriad external and internal dimensions, Kashmir continues to cast shadows on the progression of the sub-continent. Peace remains as elusive as it was in the forties; if anything, the adversaries – both known and unknown, have grown stronger. While the reasons for the conflict may have changed with the times, the underlying causes remain as profound as they were decades ago.

The book fulfillss a need to have a fresh look at the hitherto neglected aspects of Kashmir conflict viz. the developments in Kashmir across LOC. Pakistan s policy towards POK is characterized by not only ambiguity and contradiction but also domination and exploitation. Its claim to support Kashmir s right to self-determination is contrasted by the ideology of POK s accession. Any final solution of Kashmir imbroglio must take into account the realities across the line of control.

CONFLICT RESOLUTION IN JAMMU & KASHMIR: ISSUES AND CHALLENGES..... I have discussed in this book mainly about the Conflict resolution mechanism in the context of Kashmir conflict. Kashmir conflict is long standing wrangle between India & Pakistan. Due to this political wrangle the people of Kashmir suffered a lot. I tried to see the Kashmir imbroglio in the light of constitutional means. Because the people of Jammu& Kashmir had been given special rights in constitution of India but those rights have been violated gradually and slowly by the Central government of India and by the State government of Jammu&Kashmir. This violation of rights paved a way to cycle of violence in the State of Jammu & Kashmir. So, I discussed in detail that Kashmir debacle could be transformed and managed when India will not interfere in the fundamental rights of people Kashmir and let it remain for them without any interference. In nutshell, this is actually a greater autonomy debate which I have discussed in detail.
