My camera was my visual diary in this journey; the photographs investigated the relationship between the women and their places and their personal belongings. I believe photographing their spaces and their natural surroundings enabled me to express their characters, and therefore portray the aspects of their personalities.In consideration of the differences between Arabic Islamic culture and Western culture, I asked them about their opinions of life outside Saudi Arabia, the differences between living in the UK and living in Saudi Arabia. Finally, what had changed for them since they moved to the UK and how do they now perceive their homeland.

Drawing upon an array of archives from both sides of the Atlantic, Hinds traces the flow of key events and policies as well as the leading figures who shaped events to show why, how and to what extent the allies and Saudi Arabia became 'mixed up together', in the words of Winston Churchill.
