In this book, Nicholas Haydock explores the biblical presentation of the Levitical priesthood, drawing out themes that run throughout Scripture and reveal God's intention for the priesthood. It is successfully argued that this intention cannot be divorced from God's desire to reveal himself to the nations. This hypothesis is shown to be true in examining the various functions and metaphors ascribed to the Levites. Whereas in much of Old Testament criticism, the Levitical priesthood has been painted in a light contrary to the biblical depiction, The Theology of the Levitical Priesthood takes the canonical presentation of the Levites at face value. It is the author's conviction that in attending to the biblical presentation of the Levites, the Church will be aided and better equipped to apply herself to Scripture and to participate within God's mission, in the present day.

The Restoration of the Levitical Priesthood is a four-colored illustrated prophetic book on the restoration and the setting up of the tabernacle of David in the coming Millennium/third Temple;; the restoration of Levitical Priesthood (the sons of Zadok) who will draw near to minister unto God in the Holy of Holies, and the rest of the Levitical ministers and their services. The author explores the laws and the ordinances of the Priests, their services, and the Sanctuary. The Lord has detailed instructions concerning the holiness and the laws of the Levitical Priests that will draw near to minister unto Him and draw near His Holy Things in the Millennium/Messianic/Third Temple, just like in the former times during the Tabernacle of Moses, David and the Temple of Solomon. He is restoring the former order of things as stated in the Scriptures, even in the coming Millennium/Third Temple. Holiness, therefore, surely becomes the Lord's House in the Millennium Kingdom. The author also examines the setting up of the Tabernacle of David, the setting up of the Lord's Sanctuary, the Priest, the Levitical singers and worshippers of the Lord, following King David's order of Worship which he received from the hands of the Lord and gave to Solomon for the services of the Temple, which Solomon built. The division of the services of the Levites, the Priests, the Elders and the levitical singers, which are ordered according to king David are the order of things in Heaven so that the Will of God is done on Earth as it is done in Heaven. The Millennium Temple, therefore, is the restoration of the former order of things, according to the word of God which He spoke to the old Prophets concerning the restoration of the Tabernacle of David, its ruins, and the former dominion in the coming Third Temple, which is the reign of Christ, the Messiah. The book is a training handbook for the Levitical Priests, the sons of Zadok and the ministers of God in the Millennium Temple and Kingdom, who will host His Glory in His Millennium Temple, and on Earth. God is restoring His covenant with King David concerning His eternal Kingship, that there shall never fail him a man to sit upon his throne, forever; the Levitical Priesthood with whom He had an eternal covenant of peace. He has also gathered and restored the House of Israel, fulfilling His eternal covenant with Abraham that his descendants shall possess and dwell in the Promised Land, forever. His restoration of the former order of things and the rebuilding of the third Temple is the fulfillment of His promise to return to Jerusalem with compassion, to cleanse and dwell with His people on Earth again, and will never leave again. It is the restoration of all things and the Garden of Eden on Earth.

Excerpt from The Levitical Priests: A Contribution to the Criticism of the Pentateuch The author of the following work has made him self thoroughly acquainted with the writings of the chief representatives of this theory, and seeks by means of sober arguments to show that the history of the people of Israel, as it lies before us in the historical books, presupposes a distinction in rank between the priests and the Levites, which 'reaches back to the time of Moses, and existed throughout all the periods of Israelitish history; (2) that the post exilic books are in no way favourable to the opinion that the priestly hierarchy is a product of the time of Ezra; (3) that Deuteronomy, where it treats of reli gions privileges, does indeed assign them to the tribe of Levi, but yet so that these privileges - without contradicting the older legislation, which Deuteronomy recapitulates in an abridged form, and accommodates to changed circumstances - may be relatively distri buted to the sons of Aaron and the Levites. He shows - and this deserves special attention - that the post exilic Chronicles contain passages which in a Deutero nomic manner entirely obliterate the distinction between priests and Levites, while other passages emphasize it. It will naturally be expected, since I have under taken to write this preface, that I should define my position to the question with reference to the Penta teuch. I will do so frankly, although I can give only a few hints. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Introduction to Leviticus The Book of Leviticus describes the methods whereby an Israelite maintained his/her Covenant relationship with God. Maintaining this Covenant relationship involved animal or other sacrifice, dietary laws, laws governing relationships and generally obedience to the Holiness regulations laid down by God through Moses. The Book is also a Handbook for priests governing how they administer sacrifices, how they dress and otherwise perform their duties. The purpose of the animal and other sacrifices was for the forgiveness of sin, thanksgiving or worship. With the sin forgiven, one became clean and acceptable to God whereas if the sin remained it was disruptive of the close relationship required by God. In the animal sacrifice it was the blood of the slain animal that accomplished the removal of sin. As the writer of Hebrews said: "And according to the Law, one may almost say, all things are cleansed with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness" (Hebrews 9:22). This same principal carried through to the sacrifice of Christ the Lamb of God where we are cleansed and atoned for by His blood shed on the cross. "Therefore, brethren, since we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He inaugurated for us through the veil, that is, His flesh," (Hebrews 10:19-20). The sacrifices made by the people were more than a meaningless ritual. When a sacrifice was made there was to be a literal transference of the sin from the person to the sacrificial animal (called the "victim"); the sin was atoned for or removed in this same way. This principle of transference was the method used by the Father to literally transfer the sin of the world onto Christ at His death. Likewise a literal transference took place when the sin of a person was transferred to the animal or sacrifice and accomplished fully by the animal's shed blood. The sacrifices for sin under the Levitical Law were ultimately ineffective in that the forgiveness obtained was only temporary and had to be repeated again and again upon each subsequent violation. Christ, as the Lamb without blemish, accomplished a perfect forgiveness and atonement for sin for all eternity. The Law of Moses, as administered by the Levite priests, became out teacher to lead us to Christ. "Therefore the Law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith" (Galatians 3:24). Without the Law predating Christ we would not have known our need for Christ. The Law established once and for all our absolute inability to ever please God in our flesh. "Now if He [Jesus] were on earth, He would not be a priest at all, since there are those who offer the gifts according to the Law; who serve a copy [type] and shadow of the heavenly things," (Hebrews 8:4-5). So the treatment of sin according to the Law, as in Leviticus, is a type and shadow, an outline, of the complete salvation and atonement accomplished by Christ.

This book offers an innovative examination of the question: why did early Christians begin calling their ministerial leaders «priests»? This study helpfully broadens our understanding of the emergence of a Christian priesthood beyond pagan imitation or narrow focus on the sacrificial nature of the Eucharist, and offers a more comprehensive explanation in connection with early Christian ecclesiology.
