Some Of The Light written by Tim Z. Hernandez and has been published by Beacon Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-03-28 with Poetry categories.

25 years of writing from one of our most gifted Latinx poets, featuring work from early explorations of machismo to new meditations on life as a single father, immigrant detention, and spiritual inquiry Some of the Light gathers the first 25 years of Hernandez’s award-winning poetry, offering 28 new poems and a glimpse at the trajectory of a rising contemplative American author. At its core, Some of the Light contains collected poems of love, told through the lens of a single father raising two children alone in the borderlands. They are at times intimate and confessional, ranging from personal relationships to spiritual inquiry, from human rights to the environment, while between the cracks of the poems are poetic contemplations, chronicling the passing days of the pandemic. This latest work by Hernandez reveals a writer whom former US poet laureate Juan Felipe Herrera calls “a titan—unafraid to take to the road, get his hands dirty, to fully immerse himself in the world of his subjects.” Some of the Light is a part of Beacon Press’s Raised Voices poetry series, established in 2021 to raise historically excluded voices and perspectives, and to celebrate poetry’s ability to access truths in ways no other form can.

"Thank you, Catherine Sanders, for giving us a book that few others could have written. Every page speaks both the depth of your compassion and the breadth of your knowledge. This book will be a wise companion on the difficult journey from loss to recovery." — Robert Kastenbaum, Ph.D., author of The Psychology of Death "How to Survive the Loss of a Child is a godsend to those in the field as well as to those of us in need of such a resource for our own mourning." — Eugene Knott, Ph.D., University of Rhode Island "Dr. Sanders' insights are profound and poignant." — Patricia Geiger, M.D., pediatrician, Boone, North Carolina "Thank you so much for all that you do for bereaved parents but especially for writing How to Survive the Loss of a Child. I know that it has changed lives. It changed mine!" — Nancy Ulmer, bereaved parent, Kindermourn, Charlotte, North Carolina It is only through experiencing grief that bereaved parents ultimately heal. Moving through the phases of grief, the bereaved person works toward restoration. Understanding these phases, knowing what to expect, and learning what they can do to help themselves give parents greater assurance and comfort. In How to Survive the Loss of a Child, Dr. Sanders, a bereaved parent herself, offers grieving parents practical help and emotional support. This book also helps family members, friends, and caregivers relate to grieving parents and aids them, too, in understanding the process of healing through grief.

Mans search for meaning is a perennial quest. The workings and desires and hopes and frustrations of the mind, tell us many things about it, and why it is the way it is. The awesome capacity of the entire person to become addicted to almost anything, throws a light on our strength and also our weakness. The human face is a shadow cast by the mind, and more often than not, it functions as a one-way mirror rather than a true reflection of what is going on beneath the surface. We become attached to people and things, and we actually love. The exhilaration of true joy crafted onto a robust scaffold of pain and disappointment and suffering and sorrow is counter intuitive yet very real. Joy in the possession of the beloved is as good as it gets down here, but our minds pine for this bliss always. This longing for joy is not a vestigial structure in a once functional lobe of our primordial brains that has become atrophied due to disuse. It is the flicker of light at the end of our tunnel showing us the way to go. The human mind is truly a blueprint of our destiny.

Miles Milton is a prodigal. He struggles with authority and, like the prodigal son in Scripture, must learn the lessons of life the hard way. Through a series of events, he joins the British army for the war in the Sudan, thinking he will experience the good life of adventure and proudly make his way in the world. However, the providential hand of God has prepared a course for young Miles whereby, through the adventures and experiences of life in the blazing heat of the Sudan and among the tribal clans, and while attempting to survive among his enemies, he realizes the folly of his youthful ways. But is it too late? R. M. Ballantyne (24 April 1825 – 8 February 1894) was a Scottish juvenile fiction writer. Born Robert Michael Ballantyne in Edinburgh, he was part of a famous family of printers and publishers. At the age of 16 he went to Canada and was six years in the service of the Hudson's Bay Company. He returned to Scotland in 1847, and published his first book the following year, Hudson's Bay: or, Life in the Wilds of North America. For some time he was employed by Messrs Constable, the publishers, but in 1856 he gave up business for the profession of literature, and began the series of adventure stories for the young with which his name is popularly associated.
