‘The day was set, in her mind, if not in her heart. She knew what happened. For many years she had re-lived it, frequently, slotting things into place, arranging them to her satisfaction. But had she got it wrong?’ Tina Thornton’s twin sister Meg died in a childhood accident, but for almost forty years Tina has secretly blamed herself for her sister’s death. During a visit to her aging Uncle Edward and his sister Lucia, who both harbour dark secrets of their own, Tina makes a discovery that forces her to finally question her memories of the day her sister died. Who, if anyone, did kill Meg? As Tina finds the courage to face the past, she unravels the tangled family mysteries of her estranged parents, her beautiful French Aunt Simone, the fading, compassionate Uncle Edward, and above all, the cold, bitter Aunt Lucia, whose spectral presence casts a long shadow over them all. Praise for Louise’s previous book, Mrs Sinclair’s Suitcase: ‘A first novel of great charm and assurance, beautifully told and utterly gripping’ – The Times ‘A heart-breaking tale of loss, missed chances and enduring love’ – Good Housekeeping ‘[a] charming debut...’ – Daily Mail A Life Between Us is a beautifully evocative story of a family torn apart at the seams, which will appeal to readers who enjoy family sagas and modern-day mysteries.

Living Life Between Two Worlds is a book that attempts to address, from a Christian perspective, the highly visible topic of transsexuality (regarding people who change their sex). This topic has permeated our society, affecting business, commerce, our military, our educational system, legal and moral viewpoints on human sexuality and marriage, bathroom usage policies, and beyond. Given its impact, how should Christians and the Church approach this issue? Living Life Between Two Worlds was written to bring God's truth about this subject into the light so that Christians can have a resource they can turn to for answers. It is also written to give hope to those that struggle with the problem, so they can know that there is freedom through God. It tells the unique story of the author, who because of life circumstances and experiences, lived with the turmoil and emotional pain of transsexuality for over 30 years. Not only that, but it testifies about the miraculous power of God, how God divinely visited the author and revealed the truth about transsexuality, and then how God powerfully brought the author out of bondage and into freedom and peace through that deliverance experience. However, Living Life Between Two Worlds does not stop there. It tells the truth about human sexuality and challenges the theories that support transsexuality. It presents scriptures telling God's opinion on the subject. It tells how a conflicted person can combat transsexuality. It discusses the spiritual aspect of transsexuality. It tells how the Church can approach the subject in love. In short, this book attempts to be a guide about this topic from God's viewpoint with the hope that the truth contained within its pages will touch and change the lives of those suffering from the conflict, just as it changed the author's life.

Life Between Memory And Hope written by Zeev W. Mankowitz and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002-09-30 with History categories.

This is the remarkable story of the 250,000 Holocaust survivors who converged on the American Zone of Occupied Germany from 1945 to 1948. They envisaged themselves as the living bridge between destruction and rebirth, the last remnants of a world destroyed and the active agents of its return to life. Much of what has been written elsewhere looks at the Surviving Remnant through the eyes of others and thus has often failed to disclose the tragic complexity of their lives together with their remarkable political and social achievements. Despite having lost everyone and everything, they got on with their lives, they married, had children and worked for a better future. They did not surrender to the deformities of suffering and managed to preserve their humanity intact. Mankowitz uses largely inaccessible archival material to give a moving and sensitive account of this neglected area in the aftermath of the Holocaust.

A searing essay collection that explores displacement and loss, creativity and change, institutional power and progress. Born in Korea, raised in the American South, and trying her best to survive British academia, SJ Kim probes her experiences as a writer, a scholar, and a daughter to confront the silences she finds in the world. With curiosity and sensitivity, she writes letters to the institutions that simultaneously support and fail her, intimate accounts of immigration, and interrogations of rising anti-Black and anti-Asian racism. She considers the silences between generations—especially within the Asian diaspora in the West—as she finds her way back to her own family during the pandemic lockdown. Embracing the possibilities and impossibilities of language, Kim rejoices in the similes of Korean, her mother tongue, and draws inspiration from K-dramas and writers across cultures who sustain her. As borders close in and nations enter lockdown, the journey that Kim traces is fraught—and at once illuminates that the act of remaining present has its own power, allowing boundless hope.

Life Between two Worlds is a story written with great emotion. It is told by a German Immigrant who has seen the obstacles that life can put in your path. Life in Germany under a dictatorship cannot be put in any kind of comparison. As a small child, I already learned what hardship is by living with foster parents for two and one half years. My teen years were non-existing. World War II broke out and life was all rules and restrictions. Obedience was the first commandm0ent. As a soldier in the Africa Corp under General Rommel I experienced the horror of War, a War we knew from day one could never be won. When the War ended in 1943 life behind barbed wire in the United States was the result of an irresponsible war. When I returned to Germany in 1947, life was very depressing. Every city was a pile of rubble. My thoughts went back to America; to a land that I learned to love with its people who showed so much compassion for us when we were prisoners there. From that day on, I knew that I was going back to America to give my children a future. When I arrived with my family of five in New York with four dollars in my pocket, I knew that was all I needed to succeed.
