SUMMARY In the offered work, unlike the majority of formal theories, the author considers a problem of gravitation with causally consecutive point of view. By logic of researches of known facts and existing theories of this direction, he comes to conclusion about unknown fundamental property of a matter causing the gravitational phenomena. The authors explanation is not difficult to mastering both with causal and quantitative points of view. However, it demands deep changes in accepted beliefs and approaches. On the basis of the offered causal essence of gravitation, the author deduces the law of universal gravitation of Newton; he defines the theoretical value of a gravitational constant and calculates known gravitational effects, with the use of simple mathematical reasoning only. The subsequent results of the offered concept are corresponding with the checked up results of Einsteins general theory of relativity (GTR). However, for planned new experiments, on detection of gravitational waves and gravymagnetic effect, negative results are predicted. The mentioned circumstance may allow judging about value of the offered explanation in a not-far future. Despite of complexities of the studied problem, the book is narrated in a free, polemical style, stipulated for a wide range of readers. * The picture used on the cover is the Galaxy Andromeda M 31, from site www.ASTROLAB.ru . The year 2007 marked not only the centenary of Imperial College London but also the 50th anniversary of the late Nobel Laureate Professor Abdus Salam's arrival at the College. Accordingly, a conference entitled “Salam + 50” organized by the Theoretical Physics Group was held at Imperial College on 7 July 2007.Many distinguished guests attended and paid their respects to the great man. Their contributions recorded in these proceedings are divided into three sections, designed to reflect the three dimensions of Salam's character: 1) Salam the Scientist, 2) Salam the Humanitarian, and 3) Salam the Man./a

This book focuses on Albert Einstein and his interactions with, and responses to, various scientists, both famous and lesser-known. It takes as its starting point that the discussions between Einstein and other scientists all represented a contribution to the edifice of general relativity and relativistic cosmology. These scientists with whom Einstein implicitly or explicitly interacted form a complicated web of collaboration, which this study explores, focusing on their implicit and explicit responses to Einstein’s work. This analysis uncovers latent undercurrents, indiscernible to other approaches to tracking the intellectual pathway of Einstein to his general theory of relativity. The interconnections and interactions presented here reveal the central figures who influenced Einstein during this intellectual period. Despite current approaches to history presupposing that the efforts of scientists such as Max Abraham and Gunnar Nordström, which differed from Einstein’s own views, be relegated to the background, this book shows that they all had an impact on the development of Einstein’s theories, stressing the limits of approaches focusing solely on Einstein. As such, General Relativity Conflict and Rivalries proves that the general theory of relativity was not developed as a single, coherent construction by an isolated, brooding individual, but, rather, that it came to fruition through Einstein’s conflicts and interactions with other scientists, and was consolidated by his creative processes during these exchanges.
