On July 24, 1715 the largest Spanish treasure fleet ever assembled sailed from Havana harbor bound for Spain. Seven days later, at 4 AM on July 31st, a hurricane destroyed all eleven of the treasure galleons, driving them onto Florida's shore in the area now known as Florida's Treasure Coast. It is known to history as the Lost Platos Flota.Eight of the wrecked ships have been accounted for and most of their treasure salvaged over the years. Two more galleons were recently discovered off the coast of Amelia Island. The one ship never found was the Patache of the Squadron, the Nuestra Senora de la Concepcion. The hold of La Concepcion was loaded with 8,500 gold reales, 40,000 silver pesos, 10 chests of gold bars, 30 chests of silver bars as well as precious stones, emeralds and pearls from Manila. It was vast treasure that has remained a mystery of the sea for over four hundred years.Then an archaeological dig turns up the Captain's log from La Concepcion on an island off the Georgia coast and the hunt is on for the last great treasure of Los Platos Flota, the silver fleet of King Philip of Spain.
