When Sonia Nassery Cole set out to film The Black Tulip in her homeland of Afghanistan, she knew the odds were against her; she was told time and time again that filming inside a war zone would be impossible. What she didn't anticipate was how intent the Taliban and its sympathizers were on halting the film's production—the crew encountered extortion, government corruption, kidnapping attempts, and death threats, even with around-the-clock security. Her cinematographer fled after two days, and many others followed. After 9/11, Cole wrote The Black Tulip, based on a true story of a real Afghan family. The plot was simple: After 2001, when the Taliban was routed, an Afghan family opened The Poet's Corner—a restaurant with an open microphone for all to read poetry, perform music, and tell their stories. But the Taliban didn't approve, and the family's new-found hope proved fleeting as it struggled to maintain the restaurant and its vibrant way of life. Selected as Afghanistan's official submission for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 2010 Academy Awards, The Black Tulip is a modern portrait of Afghanistan that captures the plight and resilience of its people. Without financial support from a studio or anyone else, Cole self-financed the film by mortgaging her home and selling her belongings. Then, with everything on the line, she left for Kabul to make the impossible possible and set out to gather the right people who would risk their lives and willingly be part of the production. In Will I Live Tomorrow?, Cole gives an intimate look into what went on behind the scenes of making a controversial film in the heart of a war-ravaged country—the looming terror the Taliban creates among Afghans everywhere and the challenges and fear the cast and crew faced every day. Will I Live Tomorrow? is a memoir about one woman's struggle to make a difference in a violent world.

Covid was hard for all of us, but it was harder for those who lost their loved ones. It sure felt terrible and scary to witness the fragility of human life as death took the center stage. This is just one side of the coin, on the flip side, what do you think of those people who actually went through death and drifted into the abyss? What were they feeling when they died? If given a chance to these passed-on souls, what would they say about their experience? I Once Lived, is a perspective of one such man who passed away due to covid, now as a soul reflects upon the life he lived, narrates his death experience and his after-life journey, in an attempt to show us all how living well is of paramount importance, and the impact it has on our death process and the journey beyond. I wish these powerful messages will permeate deep inside and re-direct us towards leading a more fulfilling & elated life.

Set in nineteenth century America, The Man Who Lived Twice is a panoramic novel following Colonel George St Leger Grenfell, a courageous but deeply flawed Cornish cavalry officer who fought for the Confederacy in the Civil War. A hero to General Robert E Lee and a legend to the gullible hillbillies under his command, ‘Ole St Lege’ charged with the Light Brigade in the Crimea, hacked his way through the Opium War and defended the bullet-strewn barricades in the Indian Mutiny. Yet the mercenary that performed these feats of derring-do was a wanted criminal, a fraudster who bankrupted his father, risking his skin for what he considered to be a doomed cause in an unjust war. In his search for adventure, Grenfell travels the length and breadth of the continent, soaring precariously above enemy lines in a balloon and riding the rails to the Old West, meeting the characters who made, marred and mythologized American history: the business tycoons and social reformers as well as the back-shooting gunfighters and Lincoln conspirators. Along the way, he loses the woman he loves and is sentenced to death for a crime he didn’t commit. Brutalised by sadistic prison guards, he escapes to lead a far more successful life under an assumed name. Officially declared dead in 1869, Grenfell somehow survives to see in the twentieth century... The Man Who Lived Twice is the story of a personal search for redemption set against the emergence of the United States as a world power.

Hoagy discovers a rock god’s deadly side is more than an act From the first time they played on the Ed Sullivan Show, Us was the hottest band on earth. For more than a decade, the group tore through the charts and indulged in an endless cycle of drugs, women, and violence, until two musicians died—the drummer by drugs, the guitarist by a crazed gunman. Once the band was finished, lead singer Tristam Scarr retreated to the English countryside, hiding from the world until the day he hires an American to ghostwrite his memoirs. Stewart Hoag arrives in London in the company of Lulu, his ever-hungry basset hound, to find the rock idol of his youth reduced to a wheezing, frail fortysomething. The first thing Starr tells him is that their drummer never overdosed—he was murdered. And as their interviews progress, Hoagy learns that working for a rock star is almost as dangerous as being one.

A NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER THE PREVIOUSLY UNPUBLISHED MASTERPIECE FROM THE AUTHOR OF NATIVE SON AND BLACK BOY Fred Daniels, a black man, is picked up randomly by the police after a brutal murder in a Chicago neighbourhood and taken to the local precinct where he is tortured until he confesses to a crime he didn't commit. After signing a confession, he escapes from the precinct and takes up residence in the sewers below the streets of Chicago. This is the simple, horrible premise of Richard Wright's scorching novel, The Man Who Lived Underground, a masterpiece written in the same period as his landmark books Native Son (1940) and Black Boy (1945) that he was unable to publish in his lifetime. Now, for the first time, this incendiary novel about race and violence in America, the work that meant more to Wright than any other ('I have never written anything in my life that stemmed more from sheer inspiration'), is published in full, in the form that he intended.
