The mantle automatically marked a man as a prophet, a spokesman of GOD. It was also a symbol of sacrifice and commitment. The life of a prophet was not a life of luxury. The mantle represented a man's gift, the call of GOD, and the purpose for which GOD had called him. The mantle served as a symbolic purpose, in the case of the prophets, showing they were wrapped in GOD's authority. Like all imagery in the Old Testament, the mantle presents a visible representation of a New Testament principle. The mantle can be seen as a symbol of the anointing of the Holy Spirit whom GOD so graciously gives to all Christians, the people of His choosing (1 Thessalonians 1:5-6; 1 Peter 2:9). While some will disagree, I do not believe GOD calls believers in the same way today. Today, every believer is a priest of GOD (1 Peter 2:5, 9) and is in some sense called to full-time service to represent the Lord even if their occupation is secular. As believers in Christ, we are GOD's representatives and called to ministry according to the gifts GOD gives us. Part of this occurs in the work place, part in the home, part may occur in the church, and part may occur with a neighbor, etc. Every believer has a spiritual gift (or gifts) and this represents at least a portion of the mantle of GOD's call on one's life. What GOD has gifted you to do, He has called you to do. What He has called you to do, He has gifted you to do. How do you know GOD's call? By knowing your gift!

The result of this historical focus is a view of maturity that accounts for both the social forces shaping beliefs and the social consequences of those beliefs. Here is a bridge between developmental psychology, history, and contemporary society. The author begins by presenting his view of the role of ideas in history and the importance of the idea of moral maturity in psychological science, as well as in the process of understanding self. The history of maturity as a moral ideal is presented, beginning with primitive society. Key features of Medieval, Renaissance, Enlightenment, and modern Western society that have influenced ideas of maturity are considered in turn. In part II, Kiefer examines beliefs about the actual process of growth and development from earlier, nonliterate society and into the present. The action includes the mantle possessors to heal the sick, to be invisible, to fly and travel at will, to be in two places at the same time, and resurrect the dead. The ending is the healing of the drug boss and vanquishing of Lucifer. Dr. Hopkins decides to retire and bequeath the mantle to his son, John, who is also a college professor. The grabber is the mantle is possessed by 12 bearers in history to the second coming of Jesus. Dr. Hopkins is number 11.
