Excerpt from The Memoirs of an Ambassador: A Contribution to the Political History of Modern Times The following statements are chiefly based on short notes, which ere made immediately or soon after the events. They make no claim to be a history of the periods dealt with, their object is far more to throw light on a few details which still need some explanation. At the same time it has been necessary, for the sake of continuity, to relate much that is well known. Their publication has been delayed, partly in order to give precedence to those who had statements of more importance to make, and partly because it seemed better not to contribute anything further towards the elucidation of vexed questions which are still disputed, until the excitement should have subsided sufficiently to enable people to form a dispassionate opinion. Royalty And Diplomacy In Europe 1890 1914 written by Roderick R. McLean and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007-07-26 with History categories.

This 2001 book examines the diplomatic role of royal families in the era before the outbreak of the First World War. It argues that previous historians have neglected for political reasons the important political and diplomatic role of monarchs during the period. Particular attention is given to the Prusso-German, Russian and British monarchies. The Prusso-German and Russian monarchies were central in their countries' diplomacy and foreign policy, principally as a result of their control over diplomatic and political appointments. However, the book also argues that the British monarchy played a much more influential role in British diplomacy than has been accepted hitherto by historians. Individual themes examined include relations between Kaiser Wilhelm II and Tsar Nicholas II, the political significance of the ill-feeling between Wilhelm II and his uncle King Edward VII, the role of Edward VII in British diplomacy, and the impact of royal visits on pre-1914 Anglo-German relations.
