Jesus Christ for Contemporary Life is an understanding of Jesus as the Word of God, grounded in what can be known historically of Jesus and informed by subsequent reflection upon him, which hopes to help shape a Christian identity characterized by "bounded openness." Don Schweitzer moves from the historical Jesus to the present in three parts. In the first part Schweitzer develops an understanding of Jesus as the Word of God, who became incarnate to give the goodness and beauty of God further expression in time and space. Second, he explores how various atonement theories articulate ways in which Jesus empowers people to further express this beauty and goodness in their own lives. And finally, Schweitzer explores how Jesus relates to people in the church, to the events and movements in history, to other religions, and to Christians in their dialogue with God in prayer.

Have we minimized the message of the cross in an attempt to seem more relevant to an increasingly modern world? Instead of conforming to the image of Christ, have we tried to conform Christ to agree with our image, our lifestyle, and our culture? How does our understanding of truth and love affect our view of the Lord and ourselves? Does our life ultimately line up with the scripture? Do the ways we do our church line up with what Jesus had in mind when he established the church? Do we set the margins for how we live by the climate of our culture or from the scriptures?

An inspiring book on the spirituality of following Christ. Continuing Peterson's major evaluation of contemporary Christian spirituality, THE JESUS WAY asks what it means to authentically follow Christ in the modern world. As with other books in the series, THE JESUS WAY is written for both academic and serious lay audiences. Challenging but rewarding, it combines first-rate scholarship with illustrations drawn from raw human experience. Also available in the Spiritual Theology series: Christ Plays in Ten Thousand Places, Eat This Book, The Word Made Flesh and Practise Resurrection.

A Message For Our Times written by William Doyle and has been published by AuthorHouse this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-12-18 with Self-Help categories.

In this message, the author draws on his life-long ministerial experience to convey the realities of where we are on our journey through this life to where it is we are going. The book reflects the treasure of shared knowledge and reveals what the author terms the unconscious unreality, which draws people away from the conscious realities that would otherwise enrich their lives. It is directed to all Gods people, both Christians and non-Christians. These spiritual messages come at a time when the world is set on a course that is causing much consternation and answers many perplexing problems facing individuals. The author takes church leaders to task for allowing much of what is changing the face of a civil society. This book is not for idle curiosity. Each chapter is at times sad, at times joyful, and at times soul-searching. There is strong emphasis on the lure of easy borrowing and sensationalism, one of the plagues of modern times that mask the face of lasting values, diminishing the hunger for the spiritual life, and depleting the soul of contentment. This book offers a clear and unshakeable understanding of the truth of God and clarifies scriptural text about the end timesit speaks about you.

Liberating The Gospel written by David Smith and has been published by Augsburg Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-04-28 with Religion categories.

Liberating the Gospel is prefaced by Tom Wright's claim that Christians have for too long "read scripture with nineteenth-century eyes and sixteenth-century questions," and that it is urgently necessary they learn to read "with first-century eyes and twenty-first-century questions." The central section of the book concentrates on reading the narratives of the Galilean ministry of Jesus within their first century context, then exploring Paul's mission in the setting of the urban and imperial world of Rome, before offering reflection on the Apocalypse in the changed world following the destruction of Jerusalem. Smith then concludes his treatise facing the "twenty-first-century questions," seeking to build a hermeneutical bridge to our globalized world. As a whole, this major book on Christian mission aims to contribute toward an understanding of how the dynamic message of Christ might be liberated to be heard as genuinely good news today, in the process potentially transforming Christianity, provided there is willingness to face opposition from a world resistant to the exposure of its injustices.

Connie S Message Smile written by Jack B. Blount and has been published by WestBow Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-05-03 with Religion categories.

I wrote this book for two reasons, both of which are tightly intertwined. First is the fact that my daughter Connie and I discussed writing this book together while she was a freshman at the University of Kentucky. After her death, I needed to accomplish that goal we had set together, to share our faith in God with others who were not fortunate to have been brought up in a Christian home. Second is the fact that I know Satan was controlling the drunk driver who was responsible for Connies death. Therefore, I want to honor God by sharing my faith that Connie is in heaven. Satan took Connies life in this world, but God gave Connie eternal life in heaven. Through faith in Jesus Christ, we will someday be in heaven together again. The Bible is the most published book in the world by far, at over nine billion copies. Yet I acknowledge that the Bible is not the easiest place for someone new to Christian theology to begin a journey with God in our modern, science-dominated, politically correct culture. Therefore, I have captured a lifetime of study and discussions about the Bible and shared it with you in this book, in the hopes it will make you aware of what God offers everyone.

Fresh written by Steve Niswanger and has been published by Xulon Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-08 with History categories.

What if Jesus were born in the Twenty-first century, instead of the First Century? Who would he choose as disciples? What challenges would he make to today's churches? In FRESH: 21ST CENTURY JESUS, Steve Niswanger presents a "fresh" image of Jesus as He might appear in our hurried and hassled 21st-century world. By exploring some of the most well-known stories in the Gospels with information regarding the historical, political, and cultural contexts of First century Israel, the author reveals Jesus in a way that is fresh, new, clean, bright, and unspoiled. The author takes himself and the reader on a journey that imagines Jesus as if he moved on the earth in his bodily form today, just as he did in the First century. The book reaches its climax as Mr. Niswanger breaks completely into prose fiction, depicting a fascinating 21st Century Jesus interacting with 21st Century people who are analogous to the First century people with whom Jesus interacted in the Bible. This book brings Jesus "up close and personal" with our modern world and reaffirms His timeless message of mercy, grace, and salvation. A practicing attorney, Steve Niswanger has bachelor's degrees from Duke University in English and Public Policy Studies and a J. D. degree from the University of Arkansas in Little Rock. In 2009, Goldline Research recognized him as one of the top nine attorneys in the Southeast. He is a former officer in Kiwanis of Little Rock and Kiwanis International and a board member of Youth Home, Inc. His community activities include serving as a board and committee member at Saint James United Methodist Church in Little Rock and speaking engagements at numerous bar association-sanctioned seminars. He is a certified United Methodist lay speaker and is accredited to speak at United Methodists churches throughout Arkansas.
