"The Moon out of Reach" is a romance novel set in the English capital. For nearly six years now Penelope and Nan had shared the flat they were living in. When they had first joined forces, Nan had been at the beginning of her career as a pianist and was still studying, while Penelope, her senior by five years, had already been before the public as a singer for some considerable time. With the outbreak of the war, they had both thrown themselves heartily into war work of various kinds, reserving only a certain portion of their time for professional purposes. Now with the war over, they struggle to make ends meet. Maryan Rooke, an artist himself, gives encouraging words to Nan. That is, until he drops the bombshell that he is going abroad...

Our Liverpool written by Piers Dudgeon and has been published by Hachette UK this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-10-25 with History categories.

This ebook edition contains the full text version as per the book. Doesn't include original photographic and illustrated material. OUR LIVERPOOL is an oral history about the real Liverpool - about the city before its slick transformation to European City of Culture and about the spirit that remains at its heart. Here, at last, is Liverpool's grievous and glorious past. And here, through the people's voices, we find old Liverpool, without the gift-wrap. Its stories pulsate with the rhythms of an alternately funny, flippant, belligerent, stubborn and warm heart, and they broadcast the values of a community, which are the city's true legacy to the modern world. Piers Dudgeon has listened to dozens of people who remember the city as it was, and who have lived through its many changes. They talk of childhood and education, of work and entertainment, of family, community values, health, politics, religion and music. Their stories will make you laugh and cry. It is people's own memories that make history real and this engrossing book captures them vividly.

Centered reminds me that I have many more roads to travel, many more things to achieve . . . and I will continue to be centered, being more responsible in order to achieve my goals and make my dreams come true! As Willie G. spoke and read the words, following a discussion, his students began to understand what they had done wrong or why they were taking those actions. There was a feeling of relief and gratitude for this instructor that appeared to be more like a grandfather figure than a teacher. He had kept his word to not inform others unless the student was intending to injure himself/herself or another, and now the student would keep theirs. He used verses to make a statement about the situation, and now he wants to share these thoughts with others.

The Two In One written by Rod Michalko and has been published by Temple University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1999 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

When Rod Michalko's sight finally became so limited that he no longer felt safe on busy city streets or traveling alone, he began a search for a guide. The Two-in-One is his account of how his search ended with Smokie, a guide dog, and a dramatically different sense of blindness. Few people who regularly encountered Michalko in his neighborhood shops and cafes realized that he was technically blind; like many people with physical disabilities, he had found ways of compensating for his impairment. Those who knew about his condition thought of him as a fully realized person who just happened to be blind. He thought so himself. Until Smokie changed all that. In this often moving, always compelling meditation on his relationship with Smokie, Michalko probes into what it means to be at home with blindness. Smokie makes no judgment about Michalko's lack of sight; it simply is the condition within which they work together. Their partnership thus allows Michalko to step outside of the conventional-and even "enlightened"-understanding of blindness; he becomes not simply resigned to it but able to embrace it as an essential part of his being in the world. Drawing on his training as a sociologist and his experience as a disabled person, Michalko joins a still small circle of scholars who examine disability from the inside. More rare still-and what will resonate with most readers-is Michalko's remarkable portrayal of Smokie; avoiding sentimentality and pathos, it is a deeply affectionate yet restrained and nuanced appreciation of his behavior and personality. From their first meeting at the dog guide training school, Smokie springs to life in these pages as a highly competent, sure-footed, take-charge, full-speed-ahead, indispensable partner. "Sighties" are always in awe watching them work; Michalko has even persuaded some of them that the Smokester can locate street addresses-but has a little difficulty with odd numbers! Readers of The Two-in-One can easily imagine Rod and Smokie sharing the joke as they continue on their way. Author note: Rod Michalko is Adjunct Professor of Sociology, Department of Anthropology and Sociology, St. Francis Xavier University.
