Do you only have a week to spare? For those of us who are time poor but who want to seize the moment, either on our own boat or on a charter, it’s reassuring to know that there are plenty of cruising hubs from where we can enjoy some of the best of the region in only a few days. Imray Pocket Pilots are a new series of affordable PDF books, companions to the Yachting Monthly series A Week Afloat. They visit some ideal destinations and suggest a one week itinerary, and include expanded sailing directions for cruising each area based on printed Imray pilot books. Familiar Imray chartlets cover marina detail and approaches, and photos add both information and colour to the downloads. This Imray Pocket Pilot covers The Morbihan area of west France and is based on the Royal Cruising Club Pilotage Foundation Atlantic France cruising guide guide. It follows a one-week cruise out of La Trinité, into the River Auray and Gulf of Morbihan, then out across Quiberon Bay to Île Houat before returning via the Quiberon Peninsula. A growing list of Imray Pocket Pilots will include: Seven Mediterranean titles by Lucinda Heikell including Corsica, The South of France and The Ionian, Greece. This work looks at the surge of Bretons who left their homes in Western France in the latter half of the 19th century to live and work in Paris. Portrayed as backward, ignorant peasants they found no welcome until after WWII. Moch positions her work within immigration theory, connecting migration studies to theories about state projects of assimilation and about cultures of inclusion and exclusion.

The story of the Special Forces in World War II has never fully been told before. Information about them began to be declassified only in the 1980s. Known as the Jedburghs, these Special Forces were selected from members of the British, American, and Free French armies to be dropped in teams of three deep behind German lines. There, in preparation for D-Day, they carried out what we now know as unconventional warfare: supporting the French Resistance in guerrilla attacks, supply-route disruption, and the harassment and obstruction of German reinforcements. Always, they operated against extraordinary odds. They had to be prepared to survive pitched battles with German troops and Gestapo manhunts for weeks and months while awaiting the arrival of Allied ground forces. They were, in short, heroes. The Jedburghs finally tells their story and offers a new perspective on D-Day itself. Will Irwin has selected seven of the Jedburgh teams and told their stories as gripping personal narratives. He has gathered archival documents, diaries and correspondence, and interviewed Jed veterans and family members in order to present this portrait of their crucial role - a role recognized by Churchill and Eisenhower - in the struggle to liberate Europe in 1944-45. This is narrative history at its most compelling; a vivid drama of the battle for France from deep behind enemy lines.

Megalithic Tombs In Western Iberia written by Chris Scarre and has been published by Oxbow Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-12-27 with Social Science categories.

Western Iberia has one of the richest inventories of Neolithic chambered tombs in Atlantic Europe, with particular concentrations in Galicia, northern Portugal and the Alentejo. Less well known is the major concentration of tombs along the Tagus valley, straddling the Portuguese-Spanish frontier. Within this cluster is the Anta da Lajinha, a small megalithic tomb in the hill-country north of the River Tagus. Badly damaged by forest fire and stone removal, it was the subject of joint British-Portuguese excavations in 2006-2008, accompanied by environmental investigations and OSL dating. This volume takes the recent excavations at Lajinha and the adjacent site of Cabeço dos Pendentes as the starting point for a broader consideration of the megalithic tombs of western Iberia. Key themes addressed are relevant to megalithic tombs more generally, including landscape, chronology, settlement and interregional relationships. Over what period of time were these tombs built and used? Do they form a horizon of intensive monument construction, or were the tombs the product of a persistent, long-lived tradition? How do they relate to the famous rock art of the Tagus valley, and to the cave burials and open-air settlements of the region, in terms of chronology and landscape? A final section considers the Iberian tombs within the broader family of west European megalithic monuments, focusing on chronologies, parallels and patterns of contact. Did the Iberian tombs emerge through connections with older established megalithic traditions in other regions such as Brittany, or were they are the outcome of more general processes operating among Atlantic Neolithic societies?
