The motherhood penalty is a global growing concern aggravated by the gender pay gap and threatening the professional experience and prospects of working mothers, with repercussions on their households and safety. The aim of this paper is to examine the impact of this issue on Lebanese mothers in the workplace and beyond. Qualitative and secondary literature is reviewed to discuss the problem's intersectionality and significance. The findings demonstrate reduced opportunities, higher risks of poverty, and perpetuated stigmatized views of working mothers among other implications. A review of existing policies and recommendations is also conducted, taking into consideration the obstacles in instilling legislative change in Lebanon, to provide potential alternatives and solutions to the motherhood penalty from different societal sectors and actors.
