"This book began when I set myself the deceptively simple task of writing out some recipes for my four grown sons and daughters. As an introduction to the recipe collection, I wrote the story of how I learned to make our family's favorite dish, Betty Woodman's Pancakes. Then I thought David, Ann, Alan, and Melissa might be encouraged to know that I, too, was once a beginning cook, so I wrote about the Very Special Chicken and Noodles disaster. Then I wanted them to know about my childhood by the mountain lake, my life's first friend there, and how his mother taught me to make tacos, her way. Recipe led to story, story to character, character back to recipe until I began to see cooking as a strand that weaves through every part of our lives, connecting us to our intimate past, touching our most vital feelings and relationships, reminding us of our best comedies -- and our tragedies as well. From a short collection of recipes my project became this book about my life and cooking."--

This book gives students and experienced programmers a way to see coding as an art and themselves as artists whose personal views, experiences, and ways of thinking can make their programs better for themselves and their users. This book shows in a good-humored and sympathetic way how the artistic and practical sides of programming are the same, delving into the methods of coding, the history of art, and the ways in which artists and audiences interact and benefit each other. Not confined to a single language or style of coding, this book provides a widely applicable framework for people to learn what languages and styles work best for them at present and as the field evolves. It can be used as a classroom text or for personal study and enrichment.

The Eucharist is the living parable of the Christian life and story. It embodies every aspiration, teaching, hope, sacrifice, and selfless act of mercy and grace. Christ left it as a memorial in word, presence, and deed. It is love before us as Christ’s very own real presence empowers and wills us to love others as he loved us first. The Eucharist is the multisensory expression of Christ consciousness embodied in matter and in time. Anyone who embraces the real presence of Christ in Spirit and in truth will experience a life transformed. The experience of gathered worship, prayer, study, spirituality, and acts of justice and mercy will never again be the same. Written for the Church universal, The Scandalous Menu is a manifesto for the local church to embrace the supernatural power of the Eucharist and to reclaim the sacrament as the source of meaning and definition for life together as a people of God in Christ. It is the call to reaffirm marriage vows with the bridegroom and for aspiring to be a Eucharistic community in the context and place God has called the local church to be, serve, and do. This book is a call to a life of deep intimacy, a higher experience of God, and an invitation to unending transformation.

Off The Menu written by Christine Son and has been published by Penguin this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-08-05 with Fiction categories.

In this exhilarating debut, three women find that sometimes the best way to nourish your dreams is with friendship—and by daring to try something that’s not on the menu. If there's one thing these three friends can agree on, it's that being a high-achieving Asian-American woman can mean a lot of pressure. Whitney Lee works at a law firm, but no one—not even her best friends—knows about her fantasies of making it as a singer. Restaurateur Hercules Huang is poised to be the next big name in the cooking world, but her strained relationship with her unassimilated father mars her accomplishments. Audrey Henley, the adopted daughter of Texas billionaires, is thrilled when her less-than-wealthy boyfriend proposes, but her mother worries that she’s repeating the mistakes she made decades ago. They're the closest of friends—who still need to learn to trust each other. But through dinners, a weekend getaway, and shared set-ups and let-downs, these three realize that sometimes, to live the life of your dreams, all you have to do is let go of the need to be perfect. "Off the Menu is filled with characters who will resonate with anyone who has struggled to balance pleasing others with following a dream. Christine Son’s attention to cultural details will remind readers of Amy Tan, and the satisfying conclusion of the story is the perfect end to a day spent curled up with this delectable novel."—Tasha Alexander, author of And Only to Deceive and A Fatal Waltz

A Collection Of A Menu Of Verses written by Karo and has been published by Xlibris Corporation this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-08-05 with Poetry categories.

“HOW DID THIS GET HERE?” This fashionable question made famous in the late eighties was the sole reins for me to start the compilation of poems in this book. I have no idea ‘HOW’ this got here ... but once it was ‘HERE’ ... I was determined to make it ... at least ... memorable. There’s a little back story to this compendium or my involvement in poetry. Frankly, I’m not truly a fan. Until very recently these flypaper words were just doodles and scribbles on torn paper and tatted notebooks, until a friend read one or two and remarked rather innocuously, if I had any others and wouldn’t it be nice if there was a collection of them in one place. Well I have taken her advice and made sort of an anthology of them. They are from different periods of my life, so I hope you will please bear with me. What I knew as a young man, like most things I didn’t understand until I was well into my forties. What are the odds of actually writing scribbles and then be fortunate to compile them and have them published? Well this is a chance for my words to have a mouthpiece. Meaning one of you out there. There’s nothing better than being part of the echo of that nameless but great representative.

If you’re approaching that huge milepost with less than your usual birthday enthusiasm, open this book to discover all the ways in which turning fifty might just be the best thing yet. The authors share a wide range of ideas for making this major life transition a time of opportunity, growth, and celebration. As Sheila Key writes in the introduction: “What Peg and I hope you’ll hear among these pages is the irrepressible rustling of joy — joy enough to make you bust out laughing, sure, and the kind that comes from improving your mental outlook and physical habits, even just a little. But also the simple joy of having lived this long, of being able to look back over five full decades and forward to who-knows-how-many more; not to mention...the joy of living more mindfully in the ever-present Now.” Bursting with anecdotes, activities, “things to try at least once,” advice from a savvy doctor, and clever ways to remember it all, this little volume sparkles like a treasure chest. It’s as chock-full of useful and entertaining gems as your life is full of memories, regrets, dreams, and possibilities.
