I've always had the urge to look after other people's children. To pour care and love into their lives, because I know what happens when you don't. There are terrible people out there, who have been neglected and hurt and want to see the world burn. You don't want people like that in your home... I look up at the beautiful woman with perfectly painted red lipstick standing on the front steps of her grand Victorian house. Harper already trusts me to take care of her two little girls: believes the lies I've told her about where I come from and how many other mothers have welcomed me into their homes. Then I see the familiar form of her husband. My ex. The man who knows where my own missing baby boy is. I know Troy will never admit to knowing who I really am. Not after what he did to me. But I still expect to see shock and recognition in his cool blue eyes when he meets me: the woman his wife has employed to care for their children. But he simply smiles. He welcomes me into his home. I'm determined to get the truth out of Troy. But soon I realize I made a terrible mistake in coming here. Someone has been in my room. And the gun I hid under my mattress is missing. Troy thinks he can scare me away. But if he won't tell me where my son is, he has no idea how far I'll go to get revenge... A deliciously addictive and heart-pounding thriller. Readers of The Housemaid, The Marriage and Gone Girl will be shocked by the endless twists in this unputdownable page-turner. The New Childcare Bible—A Must-Have Whether You Have Occasional Sitters or a Full-Time Nanny Finding the right caregiver can be one of the most life-changing decisions a parent makes. Whether it's a kindly neighbor for the weekday latchkey hours, a teenage babysitter one night a week, or a full-time professional nanny, the right caregiver can enrich a child's world and literally grow her brain. Hire the wrong one, and this person could cause developmental delays and stress for the entire family. In her groundbreaking new book, Secrets of the Nanny Whisperer: A Practical Guide for Finding and Achieving the Gold Standard of Care for Your Child, nationally recognized parenting expert Tammy Gold draws from her extensive background in child developmental psychology, social work, and family therapy to offer the first childcare bible for parents. Knowing the impact caregivers have on children coupled with the unregulated often unknown world of in-home childcare workers, Gold has devoted her professional career, and now this book, to helping parents navigate through this important--and woefully overlooked--process. She arms parents with invaluable tools, tips, and insider secrets to finding the perfect caregiver-family match. Gold's Family Needs Assessment helps parents identify the traits and conditions that are "must-haves," added "pluses," or nonnegotiable "deal breakers." Parents can then use this list of qualities to quickly weed out unqualified candidates. She also details what to ask over the phone and in a face-to-face interview, how to structure a trial run (which she deems essential), and what to spell out in a Nanny-Family Work Agreement--another essential tool included in the book. Readers learn her "Nanny Speak 1-2-3" technique to help clarify and resolve issues with the caregiver in a productive, positive way. In addition to saving hours and energy, Parents will also discover as much about parenting as they will about finding a nanny. Secrets of the Nanny Whisperer is chock-full of parenting gems about children's developmental stages, ways to nurture and stimulate the child, and essential strategies for maintaining harmonious and high-functioning parent-child-caregiver relationships. This book is a must read for parents who want to create a happier, healthier and safer childcare experience for their child.

Everyone knows what a nanny is, yet the role of the modern nanny is still widely misunderstood. State of the Nanny provides a clear-eyed assessment of today's nannying industry and its potential for improvement. Essential reading for nannies and those who employ them. "Louise Dunham is THE expert on putting the CARE into childcare. State of the Nanny is a wonderful resource for families considering employing a nanny, and for nannies themselves. A thoroughly engaging book that eloquently discusses the political and personal whilst keeping the most important people - the children - as a highest value." -- Pinky McKay, lactation consultant and parenting advisor, and best selling author of Sleeping Like a Baby, Toddler Tactics, and other titles. "A timely call for recognition of nannies everywhere, but also for a return to an older set of values that enveloped our local societies and enabled working women for centuries to conduct their economic work outside of the home..." -- Jacalyn S Burke, author The Nanny Time Bomb - Navigating the crisis in child care From the Introduction: I've been working in the nanny industry for just under 30 years, a period in which organised child care both inside and outside the home have been through many ups and downs, and changed enormously. Much has changed for the better, but there is still plenty of room for improvement and it is very important that we continue to seek that improvement. That requires people who have informed opinions to speak out, and anyone who knows me knows that as well as my long experience in the industry, I'm rarely short of an opinion. This book is one way of expressing my opinions, which is why I've written it. When I reflect on the last 30 years, we are not as far along as I would have hoped. Progress is slow in a number of areas. With each change of federal or state government we get incremental change, but rarely anything bold. Sometimes there is a step back rather than forward. In some cases governments will create or clarify the laws - such as the requirement that nannies cannot operate as independent contractors - but then do little or nothing to implement those laws in practice. We have made some good ground in building the 'professional' status of nannies, though there is still an awful long road to travel on that issue. There is still not the necessary level of respect, support and understanding for the challenges that nannies face, the level of responsibility they take on and the fact that they earn their money and should be paid accordingly. The 'anyone can mind a child' mindset is still widespread and needs to be removed. Parents need to understand that to use untrained carers (usually in order to save money) is to compromise on their children's care, which is ultimately demeaning to the children themselves by tacitly saying that they are not important enough to be professionally cared for. This book is a call to arms on these and a number of other issues. My hope is that it will be read, discussed and debated by nannies, nanny agency operators and those who hire nannies. As the ancient Greek proverb says 'A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in'.

If you are a working mom, or a new mom returning to work after maternity leave, Lara Schoenfeld's The Nanny Solution is a guilt-free guide to ensuring exceptional childcare for back to work moms. Featuring the 5S Framework, (selection, sensitive caregiving, sanity, skills and switching gears) it is an invaluable reference. Lara, an occupational therapist (OT), employed a nanny after maternity leave because like many moms, she had to return to work, and had no family living nearby. Leaving for work every day knowing that her son was loved and well cared for was comforting but she was still overcome with mommy guilt. As an OT, she knew what kind of stimulation he needed to support his development, but here she was - a play advocate who couldn't stimulate her own son the way she wanted to. She decided that this had to change. That's when she founded Nanny 'n Me a weekly training program for nannies. "I drew on my passions for how the brain works, the science of play and my love for developing people to create a play-based training program that nannies could relate to. I started in my lounge with my toddler, his nanny and the neighborhood nannies in 2012 and before I knew it, I had 60 nannies enrolled..." Since then, Lara's company has trained over 4,500 nannies. The Nanny Solution helps you make informed decisions about the process of advertising, fielding CVs, interviews, screening, trials and probation periods, and hiring a nanny, (and hiring mistakes to avoid), quality at-home care, structured play 0-3, infant brain development, accident prevention, handling emergencies, first aid training, language development, baby equipment, breastfeeding and much, much more. 'IF YOU ARE A WORKING MOM AND YOU ARE HIRING A NANNY.... THIS IS A MUST-READ. NOW!' 'Gosh! What every return-to-work mom needs to read!' nanny hiring; nanny training; nanny employment; proximal behaviour; working moms; return-to-work moms; career moms; first time professional moms; nanny contracts; toddler and infant care; new baby care; creche care; home based care; childminding; babysitting; child development; play and child development; breastfeeding; safety; infant emergencies

From your baby's perspective, choosing the right nanny is probably the most important decision a parent can ever make: this book is about making the best possible choice. Coming home to an abused, badly injured, or even deceased child is a parent's most horrific, unimaginable scenario. And yet it happens: In 2012, two small children died while in the care of a nanny. The Nanny Time Bomb is the most accurate and comprehensive analysis of the current crisis in child care, offering case studies and practical advice to help parents make the most educated, well-informed decision when choosing a nanny for their child. The book takes the reader through various types of nannies—from graduates to undocumented workers—thus allowing parents to see how the industry has evolved far past schoolgirl babysitters. Setting itself apart, Jacalyn S. Burke's exploration of the different types of nannies offers a new perspective on child care not only for parents but also for those interested in larger sociological trends. This book gives a voice to the often-unheard grievances of nannies, showing why they may snap; explaining how to prevent tragedies; and describing how parenting has evolved. The author's examination of current cultural and social trends will be useful for a wide readership beyond parents.

Nanny Knows Best written by Katherine Holden and has been published by The History Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-09-01 with Family & Relationships categories.

Not quite part of the family and more than just an employee; idealised and demonised, the nanny has always had a difficult role in family life. Any discussion of nannies arouses strong emotions in those who have employed them and reveals a sometimes shocking range of experiences both for the nannies and for the children they looked after. Winston Churchill as a child rarely saw his mother and idolized his nanny, paying for fresh flowers to be maintained on her grave and keeping her portrait by his bedside till he died. A nanny to the one of the principal landowning families in Dorset nearly starved their treasured heir to death, while a Suffolk nanny found parting from one of her charges so traumatic that she suffered a mental breakdown. This book weaves personal stories viewed through the eyes of nannies, mothers and children into a fascinating cultural history of the iconic British nanny. Katherine Holden goes beyond the myths to discover where our tradition of employing nannies comes from and to explore the ways in which it has and has not changed over the past century. From the Norland Nannies' 'method' and the magical Mary Poppins, to the terrifying breach of trust in films, The Nanny and The Hand that Rocks the Cradle, to today's child-tamer 'Supernanny', our culture has alternately welcomed and rejected this approach to child-care. The tales told in this history reach to the heart of the nanny dilemma that parents still struggle with today.
