I know what you're thinking. Before I even begin sharing my thoughts, you'll think that I'm just a helpless stoner who wants to legalize marijuana so I can be high all day. I'm not going to justify your preconceptions with a response; not because they're wrong, but because I honestly feel it should be legalized for several reasons that don't just benefit me. Let's dive in.I think marijuana should be legalized because of its medicinal effects. According to Medline Plus, a National Institutes of Health website, 3-5 percent of the United States population has generalized anxiety disorder. I'm taking medications for it that generally make me drowsy, give me insomnia and can make me feel worse than I actually am. Plus, I get random bouts of depression from them as well. Some days I literally just lie in my bed all day and listen to sad music because I feel overwhelmed and upset that death is inevitable. But there's a lovely antidepressant known as cannabis. It significantly improves mood from THC (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol), which is the main psychoactive chemical in marijuana. In addition to the medicinal benefits of cannabis, there are no conclusive studies published to prove whether or not marijuana is more dangerous or less dangerous than alcohol. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that around 38,000 deaths last year were alcohol-induced. There was no category for marijuana-related deaths. And this was without its legality. There are said to be many social benefits to smoking marijuana regularly, and cannabis can also spur creativity. I'm not saying that I recommend smoking pot all the time, or even that you should do it once if you're uncomfortable with doing it. There are plenty of worse things to do than marijuana (murder, for one). I am upset people seem to be taking the same stance on marijuana that they did on vaccines when Dr. Wakefield came out with his experiment. Sure, it opened up a discussion that was worth having, but we really need the research present to form any opinions and have any conclusive changes.I'm noticing a theme in my editorials for the Chronicle, and it's pretty simple to grasp: don't be stupid. Get the facts and make a decision. When you don't know what you're talking about, don't spread false information. Don't speculate or assume. If you care enough about the subject, please do some research and try to find the correct answer. Until then, it's fine to say that you don't know something; that's why we're all here to learn. We are making scientific advancements every day. Anything could be proven wrong at any moment, but right now, we can only go off of the information that we have at our disposal. The earth is still spherical; time is still a concept of human perception; death is still inevitable; Donald Trump still can't win my vote; Oprah still won't give me her cell number. What was the point of this again? Oh yeah, don't be stupid. I'm begging you. Just don't. On to the next issue.

Wild About Weeds written by Jack Wallington and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019 with GARDENING categories.

Wild about Weeds is the must-have guide for modern gardeners that explains how to tame and nurture the most challenging of plants. Not all weeds are ugly uncontrollable brutes. Yes, they can be difficult and intimidating, but by learning how to grow weeds in unexpected ways you will become a better gardener with a more interesting garden. This book profiles over 50 weeds and shows you surprising ways to grow them, no matter what your garden type: from borders to boxes, sunny to shady, poor soil to rich, tropical to formal, Japanese-style to prairies. With interviews, tips and advice from celebrated gardeners, learn how to let weeds flourish without taking control. Gardening Book of the Year 2019 - The Times Best Gardening Reads of 2019 - Daily Mail Best Gardening Books of the Year - Gardens Illustrated Top Garden Books of 2019 - The English Garden "This well-argued advocacy for rebel plants shows why we should all be growing a few in our gardens." Gardens Illustrated "In this excellent guide, garden designer Wallington rehabilitates the lowly weed...Wallington's humor ("part of me - the rebellious, weed-like part! - likes weeds purely because people tell me not to") and passion for his subject shine through on every page. This new spin on an old subject will encourage both new and seasoned gardeners to look at what's already growing in their garden (and what could be) with fresh eyes." Publishers Weekly "A lovely, practical gardening book that celebrates the beauty and ecological value of the gorgeous plants that we have been silly enough to overlook. Gardens with native 'weeds' are quintessentially English, tangled and tousled, and self-deprecating. Yet they burst with life, for these are plants that have evolved alongside our pollinators such as bees, and other insects that offer themselves to birds. Wild about Weeds sensibly distinguishes between the under-appreciated plants that conjure life into our gardens, and those potentially invasive species that are undesirable for good reason." "Cannabis is everywhere! Whether you call it weed, pot, or marijuana, cannabis by any other name is still cannabis. From your stereotypical street drug dealer to medical cannabis dispensaries to courtrooms across America, we cannot escape the hot buzz that is weed. While it may be hot, it is nothing new; since being made illegal over a hundred years ago, proponents of its use and benefits have rallied and advocated for its declassification as an illicit substance, upon deaf ears until very recently. Individuals’ states and companies have been making moves to decriminalize and regulate this drug. The ongoing debates and public discourse associated with cannabis legalization have broader implications for criminal justice policy and social equity in the United States. The Need for Weed: Marijuana Policy and Public Politics in the Criminal Justice System address the impact of cannabis policy on crime and policing, as well as its impact on social justice and public policy more broadly."--

The leading clinical expert on marijuana sifts through the myths about the drug to deliver an unbiased, comprehensive guide backed by scientific facts to give you the information you need to make informed decisions about marijuana. Marijuana--or weed, pot, grass, MJ, Mary Jane, reefer, cannabis, or hemp among dozens of other names--has a long, colorful history dating back more than 2,000 years as the one of the most sought-after mood-altering substances in the world. Societal opinion about the drug has dramatically swayed over the years, from viewing it as a grave danger to society in the 1930s film Reefer Madness, to a harmless recreational high in the ’60s, to an addictive substance and gateway to such “hard” drugs as heroin today. The myths and misinformation about marijuana have only multiplied over the years as the controversy over legalization and medical marijuana grows.A nationally recognized clinical expert and leading researcher on marijuana, Kevin P. Hill provides a comprehensive guide to understanding the drug in Marijuana: Cutting through the Myths about the World’s Most Popular Weed. Through research-based historical, scientific, and medical information, Hill will help you sort through what you hear on the streets and in the media and cut straight to the facts. Whether you’re a parent concerned about your child’s use, someone with an illness considering medical marijuana as a treatment option, a user who has questions about its effect on your health, or if you’re just trying to make up your mind about legalization, this book will give you the most current and unbiased information you need to make informed decisions about marijuana.

Some people suffer from chronic, debilitating disorders for which no conventional treatment brings relief. Can marijuana ease their symptoms? Would it be breaking the law to turn to marijuana as a medication? There are few sources of objective, scientifically sound advice for people in this situation. Most books about marijuana and medicine attempt to promote the views of advocates or opponents. To fill the gap between these extremes, authors Alison Mack and Janet Joy have extracted critical findings from a recent Institute of Medicine study on this important issue, interpreting them for a general audience. Marijuana As Medicine? provides patientsâ€"as well as the people who care for themâ€"with a foundation for making decisions about their own health care. This empowering volume examines several key points, including: Whether marijuana can relieve a variety of symptoms, including pain, muscle spasticity, nausea, and appetite loss. The dangers of smoking marijuana, as well as the effects of its active chemical components on the immune system and on psychological health. The potential use of marijuana-based medications on symptoms of AIDS, cancer, multiple sclerosis, and several other specific disorders, in comparison with existing treatments. Marijuana As Medicine? introduces readers to the active compounds in marijuana. These include the principal ingredient in Marinol, a legal medication. The authors also discuss the prospects for developing other drugs derived from marijuana's active ingredients. In addition to providing an up-to-date review of the science behind the medical marijuana debate, Mack and Joy also answer common questions about the legal status of marijuana, explaining the conflict between state and federal law regarding its medical use. Intended primarily as an aid to patients and caregivers, this book objectively presents critical information so that it can be used to make responsible health care decisions. Marijuana As Medicine? will also be a valuable resource for policymakers, health care providers, patient counselors, medical faculty and studentsâ€"in short, anyone who wants to learn more about this important issue.
