Throughout history, weve been conditioned by society, media, education, and family to believe we need love to be happy. In The New Model of Love, author Charles Lim Wu examines and challenges this tightly held and deep-seated belief. He shows how love has evolved throughout the years and discusses the importance of realizing and accepting these changes to positively move forward. Wu looks at and redefines love. He explores the origins of the old model of love and tells how it no longer serves us to remain within its confines. The New Model of Love discusses how it can be daunting to confront the old model, but once that fear is conquered, youll be free to love as youve never loved before. Once you accept the new model, youll find freedom in love and liberation from the shackles of needing love from others. Youll stop seeking love and start creating it for yourself. Using his personal experiences and discoveries as a backdrop, Wu offers an opportunity to experience abundant joy and happiness in all your relationships, with the goal of naturally and freely experiencing infinite love.

Religious believers understand the meaning of their lives and of the world in terms of the way these are related to God. The conceptual models whereby this relationship is described therefore play a key role in the conceptual designs which theologians produce to express the faith of the community of believers. Vincent Brümmer examines the implications of using the model of love in this context and looks at a number of the most significant views of the nature of love: exclusive attention (Ortega y Gasset), ecstatic union (nuptial mysticism), passionate suffering (courtly love), need-love (Plato, Augustine), and gift-love (Nygren). All these views are shown to interpret love as an attitude rather than as a relation between persons. In the final chapters a relational concept of love is developed, and it is shown how all the various attitudes discussed in the previous chapters have a role to play. Finally, the implications are addressed of using the model of love as a key model in theology.

How To Fall In Love With Anyone written by Mandy Len Catron and has been published by Simon and Schuster this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-06-27 with Family & Relationships categories.

“A beautifully written and well-researched cultural criticism as well as an honest memoir” (Los Angeles Review of Books) from the author of the popular New York Times essay, “To Fall in Love with Anyone, Do This,” explores the romantic myths we create and explains how they limit our ability to achieve and sustain intimacy. What really makes love last? Does love ever work the way we say it does in movies and books and Facebook posts? Or does obsessing over those love stories hurt our real-life relationships? When her parents divorced after a twenty-eight year marriage and her own ten-year relationship ended, those were the questions that Mandy Len Catron wanted to answer. In a series of candid, vulnerable, and wise essays that takes a closer look at what it means to love someone, be loved, and how we present our love to the world, “Catron melds science and emotion beautifully into a thoughtful and thought-provoking meditation” (Bookpage). She delves back to 1944, when her grandparents met in a coal mining town in Appalachia, to her own dating life as a professor in Vancouver. She uses biologists’ research into dopamine triggers to ask whether the need to love is an innate human drive. She uses literary theory to show why we prefer certain kinds of love stories. She urges us to question the unwritten scripts we follow in relationships and looks into where those scripts come from. And she tells the story of how she decided to test an experiment that she’d read about—where the goal was to create intimacy between strangers using a list of thirty-six questions—and ended up in the surreal situation of having millions of people following her brand-new relationship. “Perfect fodder for the romantic and the cynic in all of us” (Booklist), How to Fall in Love with Anyone flips the script on love. “Clear-eyed and full of heart, it is mandatory reading for anyone coping with—or curious about—the challenges of contemporary courtship” (The Toronto Star).

C.H.O.I.C.E.S. Model: Choosing Love Instead of Fear is a self-empowerment book which was 35 years in the making and based on extensive research. That research distilled down to its essence demonstrates that stress is not, as is often portrayed in popular culture, the enemy. Data from two separate fields, academia, and industry, while having opposing views on who is responsible for reducing felt stress, both agree that the primary mitigator of harmful distress is locus of control (LOC). Internal LOC locates the control within the individual whereas external LOC locates the control from outside forces. The consensus by academia and industry is the more LOC is internal, the less distress is felt. Chosen versus imposed stressors yield less harmful impacts from the distress. This research becomes a powerful tool to help reduce distress by restoring control to the individual. Life can be so overwhelming that automatic knee jerk reactions are used to fend off a constant barrage of stressors. The CHOICES Model provides a way to be proactive. The more this is done consciously the greater the sense of wellbeing. The book presents seven life areas which give purpose and meaning. The areas include Community, Health, Occupation, Investment, Creativity, Education, and Spirituality. Each is essential to a quality life. The premise of this book is that an individual’s perception of their own personal power increases with every small success and one area of success gives the individual confidence to believe in themselves enough to attempt challenges in the other domains. There’s a chapter for each of these seven equally important domains. Each area is defined along with the rationale and tools necessary for personal development. Community is important because we are social beings with needs for belonging. Letting someone know you care allows joy to spring through both your hearts. No matter our physical or mental condition, health matters to all of us. Our personal level of wellbeing sets the limits for what can be our personal best. Build strength and immunity when feeling well and be gentle with yourself when you’re not. Occupation is important because we all have a need to be part of something bigger than ourselves; a calling to make a difference; and a desire to leave a meaningful legacy. This needn’t be one’s vocation. It is literally what occupies our time and energy. It may be an avocation or volunteer service work. However we spend our time, let our life’s work lift our hearts and move us all into better days. Investment is not limited to finances. This area is all about how we spend our resources. Besides money, it includes our time, energy, and level of commitment. Let’s be generous and give of ourselves without expecting anything in return. In this way we all have the power to be superheroes. Creativity is important because it defines who we are. We build a life. We express who we are. We make something that only we can imagine. Expressions from our hearts are never wasted. When we bring something new into this world we give birth to something that will survive us. Education is something we do naturally and have done since we took our first breath. Lifelong learning helps us make our way in the world. We know that reading to a child instills curiosity and ignites intelligence. Let’s read to a child tonight and if that’s not possible, let’s all continue reading to our inner child. Finally, spirituality provides transcendence to see and feel beyond our limitations and provides love when facing the void. Namaste! The light within me bows to the light within you. Let’s spread this message and celebrate the sacred in each other.

What Shamu Taught Me About Life Love And Marriage written by Amy Sutherland and has been published by Random House this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-02-12 with Self-Help categories.

While observing exotic animal trainers for her acclaimed book Kicked, Bitten, and Scratched, journalist Amy Sutherland had an epiphany: What if she used these training techniques with the human animals in her own life–namely her dear husband, Scott? In this lively and perceptive book, Sutherland tells how she took the trainers’ lessons home. The next time her forgetful husband stomped through the house in search of his mislaid car keys, she asked herself, “What would a dolphin trainer do?” The answer was: nothing. Trainers reward the behavior they want and, just as important, ignore the behavior they don’t. Rather than appease her mate’s rising temper by joining in the search, or fuel his temper by nagging him to keep better track of his things in the first place, Sutherland kept her mouth shut and her eyes on the dishes she was washing. In short order, Scott found his keys and regained his cool. “I felt like I should throw him a mackerel,” she writes. In time, as she put more training principles into action, she noticed that she became more optimistic and less judgmental, and their twelve-year marriage was better than ever. What started as a goofy experiment had such good results that Sutherland began using the training techniques with all the people in her life, including her mother, her friends, her students, even the clerk at the post office. In the end, the biggest lesson she learned is that the only animal you can truly change is yourself. Full of fun facts, fascinating insights, hilarious anecdotes, and practical tips, What Shamu Taught Me About Life, Love, and Marriage describes Sutherland’s Alice-in-Wonderland experience of stumbling into a world where cheetahs walk nicely on leashes and elephants paint with watercolors, and of leaving a new, improved Homo sapiens.

When Love Is Not Enough written by Donna Piazza, PHD and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-05-22 with Psychology categories.

When Love Is Not Enough relates how a multitude of factors--the competence of staff; the safety, nurturing, and protective elements of the emotional, physical, and political setting; and all overt and covert organizational dynamics--determine whether or not a treatment setting accomplishes its therapeutic aims. Authors in When Love Is Not Enough continue the emphasis on the group-as-a-whole “Group Relation” model of organizational and group processes begun with Wilfred Bion’s work at the Tavistok Clinic in London in the 1940s. This model helps those providing services to children and adolescents evaluate their treatment programs and make the necessary changes toward improvement. Chapters in When Love Is Not Enough are dedicated to improving the psychological treatment of children and adolescents in postmodern society, a society in which life in interdependent communities is becoming increasingly important for the health and survival of all persons. Topics covered include: the Tavistok approach to understanding group and organizational behavior the emphasis on group-as-a-whole in problem solving and treatment design narrowing the gap between plan and outcome the dynamics involved in the psychiatric treatment of children issues of staff selection, training, and development in programs designed to treat children countertransference responses in the treatment of children and adolescents revitalizing organizations the subjective experience of school life When Love Is Not Enough helps organizations realize the ways in which they may, inadvertently, undermine the emotional and cognitive functioning of the staff or the identified patients and set serious limits on the growth of members of the organization, staff and patients alike. It urges organizations to conduct an ongoing self-scrutiny concerning their rational and irrational processes, as this self-examination is crucial to the health and vitality of the treatment offered to others. The book also promotes thinking of the conscious and unconscious dynamics of the group-as-a-whole to more completely inform organizational decisions concerning changes that may enhance the treatment of children and adolescents. When Love Is Not Enough serves as an invaluable guide for mental health professionals who treat children and adolescents, group therapists, hospital and clinic administrators, psychoanalysts, nurses, social workers, psychologists, and psychiatrists.
