There are many investigations of the Old Testament priests and the New Testament’s appropriation of such imagery for Jesus Christ. There are also studies of Israel’s corporate priesthood and what this means for the priesthood of God’s new covenant people. In this NSBT volume, Andrew S. Malone traces these two distinct threads and their intersection through Scripture with an eye to the contemporary Christian relevance.

This book presents a scriptural study of the meaning of the priesthood in both aspects: as ministerial, and that of all Christians. The approach is in three stages: first, the Old Testament; next the Letter to the Hebrews; then 1 Peter and the Book of Revelation. Vanhoye explains that the common priesthood is personal offering while the pastoral ministry is a manifestation of the priestly mediation of Christ. This complementarity reflects the basic unity of the priesthood in Christ.

Evolving Visions of the Priesthood traces the movement of the Church in the United States during the first forty years of the implementation of Vatican II. This research gives the U.S. Church a good picture of itself and its struggles during the post-conciliar period. These studies are important for what they tell us of priests who were already ministering the theology of the Council, at the time of the Council, and also consider those priests ordained more recently and their perspectives on Vatican II. How the different groups of priests perceive each other in their respective desires to be faithful to God offers the reader insight into today's presbyterate. By following what has been happening we get a glimpse of what the future holds. Given the struggles of the scandals recently confronting the Church, the studies also offer indications of why the particular problems arose so suddenly and why they were so related to a given time frame. Chapters are The American Priesthood After the 1960s," *Characteristics of Priests in 2001, - *The Shifting Emphasis in Ecclesiology, - *The New Priests, - *Issues and Needs Felt by Priests, - *The Question of Homosexual Subcultures, - *Understanding the Changes, - and *Recommendations Made by the Priests. - Includes an epilogue, *Effects of the 2002 Sexual Misconduct Crisis. - Dean R. Every born-again child of God is a priest of the Lord in this new dispensation.According to the word of God, Priesthood is not only a divine appointment; it is also hereditary in nature.Jesus became our High Priest in order to make every member of his family a priest in his room. Jesus Christ is now at the right hand of God executing his priesthood over the beloved while he expects us to be priests to our world. However, many believers are yet to come to terms with the reality of this sacred office committed into our hands. While many think priesthood is an appellation for those called into the pulpit ministry, others think this highly revered office has passed away with the Old Testament laws. However, the book of Revelation established the fact that everyone born of God is a priest unto the Lord his God. This shows priesthood is an office which no one born of God is exempted from.It doesn't matter therefore whether you are in politics; business or a career appointment, the word of God says you are a priest of the Lord.As a priest of the Lord therefore, there are basic rules of the game God wants you to understand and live by. The bible made us to understand that when priests are responsible and faithful to their duties, their nations are at peace. This goes to confirm that priests have responsibilities to their nations.God don't just call any man and place him in a place for nothing. There is a specific task assigned for you to do.When the priests are impious and irresponsible, the nations suffer untold hardship in the hands of their adversaries. What are the rules God expect you to live by as a priest? And how will you maximize your priesthood to a place of acceptable service? These and many more are the subject of discussion in this book.I am convinced of the Holy Spirit that no Christian would discover the truth of God's word in this book and still remain the same.Welcome to the discovery of the total will of God for your life.

Is there anything in the New Testament about the need for priests in the Church? Many Protestants would argue no. And if you point out that there is a priesthood in the Old Testament, they are likely to say it was a feature of the Old Covenant that was undone by Christ. How should a Catholic respond? In Jesus and the Old Testament Roots of the Priesthood, biblical scholar John Bergsma convinces readers that Jesus did, in fact, intend for a ministerial priesthood to be a key feature of the New Covenant. Bergsma shows how the priesthood is a major thread holding together the biblical story line—beginning with Adam’s loss of the gift of priesthood in the Fall and the long process of restoring his descendants to a priestly status over the centuries, culminating with Christ. With chapter summaries and discussion questions included, Jesus and the Old Testament Roots of the Priesthood can readily be adapted into a four-part study for personal or small group use.

Catholic priesthood is facing many challenges from the point of view of modern culture, technological progress, and progressive secularism and fast changing socio - economic and political inequalities. Priests are very busy with their own activities. They have no time to spend for the people of God. Some think that there is no sense in talking about priesthood in a secularized world. Others feel that, by insisting on priesthood, the Church has brought about an unforgivable return to the ritualistic aspect of the Old Testament and so has rejected the authentic message of the gospel. Nowadays the relation between priests and the life of the people is decreasing. Many are criticizing our priesthood because of the lack of the faithfulness of some priests to their life. Here the question and relevance of this topic arises. Who is the real priest? The priest is expected to be another Christ to the people by his form of imitation of Him, by his penitential spirit and by his unity with poor and suffering. This dissertation is to analyze and to understand the priesthood introduced in the New Testament especially in the Letter to the Hebrews. In 2009 Pope Benedict wrote a letter to the priests related with year of priest. It provides a deeper understanding of the spiritual - theological understanding of the priesthood and its pastoral mission. The highlight is the servant model of priesthood given by Jesus with the intertwined dimensions of steward and shepherds models that make Catholic priesthood integral, effective and prophetically fruitful solution to the human miseries. Priests are the images of Christ. They have to live according to the life of Jesus. It is only in the Letter to the Hebrews we get a clear evidence for priesthood of Jesus from New Testament. The author is introducing Jesus as the fulfillment of the Old Testament priesthood. There we can see an evolution from the priesthood of Levi to the priesthood of Jesus. This evolution should happen in a seminarian life after a long year of formation.

Priesthood In Religious Life written by Stephen Bevans and has been published by Liturgical Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-09-27 with Religion categories.

This is the first book in English on priesthood in religious life to be published in twenty years. Its fourteen contributors search for new ways forward in the understanding of the distinct identity and ministry of religious men—committed to community, the prophetic lifestyle of vows or promises, and the particular charisms of their congregations—who have also answered the call to priesthood. Essays in this collection include reflections from a bishop, from the perspective of a lay theologian, from an expert in the social sciences, and on Pope Francis’s teachings on priesthood. Included as well are essays that are rooted in particular cultural traditions, in spirituality, and in canon law.
