Being a mother of three I certainly know the challenges that every day life can bring. But, what about the painful past? How does one cope with horrid memories of an abusive childhood? How does one overcome the guilt of years of alcohol and drug abuse? How does one grasp the very threads of life and maintain a mere existence in a world filled with much corruption? I can tell you that the Lord Jesus Christ is the One Who lowered the pistol from my right temple and gave me hope in my meaningless life. He is the Answer to every question I have, the Mender of every problem I face, the Forgiver of every sin I commit, and the Leader of every step that I take! He has made all of the difference in my life! He IS the difference! He IS the Truth, the Way, and the Life! He IS! Over time, on my endless journey, He has wiped away the tears and given me the courage to look back with a forgiving and shameless heart. He has given me the strength to move forward in each new day! In my book, The Open Road of Life, there are poems, inspirations, prayers, and true stories telling what the Lord has put on my heart since I gave my life back to Him. Some tell of what Hes brought me through while others tell of lessons learned. Feel the pains of the past and the confusions of what every day life can bring. Read how the love of God has comforted and brought so much joy to my life through faith and trust in Him. Discover the beauty of lifes many wonders. Read about the changes He has made in me and know that He will do the same for you. See how He opened my eyes and heart and gave me a deeper appreciation and respect for everyone and everything around me, but most of all a greater desire and love for Him! "I LOVE You fervently and devotedly, O Lord, my Strength. The Lord is my Rock, my Fortress, and my Deliverer; my God, my keen and firm Strength in Whom I will trust and take refuge, my Shield, and the Horn of my salvation, my High Tower. I will call upon the Lord, Who is to be praised; so shall I be saved from my enemies." Psalm 18:1-3 AMP May the love of God be real to you today as you read what His love has done for me! May you know that He truly loves you regardless of what youve done or where youve been. What really matters now is where youll go from here. So kick off your shoes, wiggle your toes a bit, and take a little stroll with Him down The Open Road of Life!

Policing the Open Road examines how the rise of the car, that symbol of American personal freedom, inadvertently led to ever more intrusive policing--with disastrous consequences for racial equality in our criminal justice system. When Americans think of freedom, they often picture the open road. Yet nowhere are we more likely to encounter the long arm of the law than in our cars. Sarah Seo reveals how the rise of the automobile transformed American freedom in radical ways, leading us to accept--and expect--pervasive police power. As Policing the Open Road makes clear, this expectation has had far-reaching political and legal consequences.--

Before "New Age" there was "New Thought," a philosophy that sought God through metaphysics and was wildly popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. American mystic and best-selling author RALPH WALDO TRINE (1866-1958) was one of the most significant writers on New Thought principles, and in this delightful work, Trine lays down a creed on living an honest, fearless, just, and joyful life. He pledges, and asks us to pledge: . to aid in righting wrongs . to "love the fields and the wild flowers" . to act upon our own convictions . to "get up immediately when we stumble" . and 13 more. On the Open Road is perfect as a gift to someone needing inspiration-or to give ourselves a boost of confidence.

Mr. Trine's many readers, who delight in the "Life Books," will welcome this little creed of wholesome living; a book of lay sermons done in decorative type. -Publisher's Weekly [1908] Ralph Waldo Trine has added another small volume to the wholesome and inspiring series entitled "The Life Books." This new "Life Book" is called "On the Open Road," and it begins with the articles of a sweet, wholesome and liberal creed of living that, as its subtitle states, is "to be observed today, to be changed tomorrow, or banished, according to tomorrow's ligh" The different articles of this creed serve in the place of chapter headings, as each one of the short chapters is in the nature of a dissertation upon the principal thought that begins it. To people who are jogging along very comfortably and congratulating themselves that they are neither better nor worse than the average, this book might be a good deal of an eye-opener. To others who are doing their level best to control their own natures and to come into the right relation with humanity at large, it will unquestionably be both an inspiration and a reminder. In any case, a few hours spent in a careful study of what it contains need not be reckoned as lost time. -The Craftsman, Volume 16 [1909]

After the end of World War II, the American road trip began appearing prominently in literature, music, movies, and photography. Many photographers embarked on trips across the U.S. in order to create work, including Robert Frank, whose seminal 1955 road trip resulted in The Americans. However, he was preceded by Edward Weston, who traveled across the country taking pictures to illustrate Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass; Henri Cartier-Bresson, whose 1947 trip through the American South and into the West was published in the early 1950s in Harper's Bazaar; and Ed Ruscha, whose road trips between Los Angeles and Oklahoma later became Twentysix Gasoline Stations. Hundreds of photographers have continued the tradition of the photographic road trip on down to the present, from Stephen Shore to Taiyo Onorato and Nico Krebs. The Open Road considers the photographic road trip as a genre in and of itself, and presents the story of photographers for whom the American road is muse. The book features David Campany's introduction to the genre and eighteen chapters presented chronologically, each exploring one American road trip in depth through a portfolio of images and informative texts, highlighting some of the most important bodies of work made on the road from The Americans to present day.
