Bidden by a lovesick ghost to unearth Lord Byron’s secret diary, a Boston heiress finds a fiery passion of her own in this “spellbinding” novel (Romantic Times). Heiress Alison Cunningham, born into the upper echelon of Boston society, is shattered when her parents are killed in a tragic plane crash. Driven by grief to a séance, she receives a message not from her family, but from long-dead Lady Caroline Lamb, a former lover of Lord Byron whose affair ended in heartbreak and betrayal. All Caroline wants is proof that Lord Byron truly loved her—proof that can be found in his memoirs, hidden somewhere in Dewhurst Manor. But when Alison impulsively buys the estate, she finds more than she bargained for. Jeremy Ryder, a British antiques dealer, is also searching for the memoirs. Their tempers quickly clash, but not without igniting a historic passion of their own in this “truly remarkable story” (Publishers Weekly). “Jill Jones continues to carve out a most unique and extraordinary niche for herself with her completely captivating and unusual novels.” —RT Book Reviews

The vivid and dramatic life of Lady Caroline Lamb, whose scandalous love affair with Lord Byron overshadowed her own creativity and desire to break free from society's constraints. From the outset, Caroline Lamb had a rebellious nature. From childhood she grew increasingly troublesome, experimenting with sedatives like laudanum, and she had a special governess to control her. She also had a merciless wit and talent for mimicry. She spoke French and German fluently, knew Greek and Latin, and sketched impressive portraits. As the niece of Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire, she was already well connected, and her courtly skills resulted in her marriage to the Hon. William Lamb (later Lord Melbourne) at the age on nineteen. For a few years they enjoyed a happy marriage, despite Lamb's siblings and mother-in-law detesting her and referring to her as "the little beast." In 1812 Caroline embarked on a well-publicised affair with the poet Lord Byron - he was 24, she 26. Her phrase "mad, bad and dangerous to know" became his lasting epitaph. When he broke things off, Caroline made increasingly public attempts to reunite. Her obsession came to define much of her later life, as well as influencing her own writing - most notably the Gothic novel Glenarvon - and Byron's. Antonia Fraser's vividly compelling biography animates the life of 'a free spirit' who was far more than mad, bad and dangerous to know.

Lady Caroline Lamb , among Lord Byron's many lovers, stands out - vilified, portrayed as a self-destructive nymphomaniac - her true story has never been told. Now, Paul Douglass provides the first unbiased treatment of a woman whose passions and independence were incompatible with the age in which she lived. Taking into account a traumatic childhood, Douglass explores Lamb's so-called 'erotomania' and tendency towards drug abuse and madness - problems she and Byron had in common. In this portrait, she emerges as a person who sacrificed much for the welfare of a sick child, and became an artist in her own right. Douglass illuminates her novels and poetry, her literary friendships, and the lifelong support of her husband and her publisher, John Murray.

What Started as a Love Match lit the fire of a Thirty-year War. In 1828, the beautiful Rosina Wheeler married one of Victorian England’s most successful and prolific writers, Edward Bulwer-Lytton. What followed shocked and entertained the public for over thirty years. After their marriage broke down, Rosina refused to be silenced. She pursued her husband with a single-minded and very public crusade to prove she was in the right. She even interrupted her husband’s election campaign to denounce him to the assembled voters. Edward responded by threatening to have her committed to a lunatic asylum. But that was only the beginning. The novel draws freely on Edward and Rosina’s own words. Both have a convincing story to tell - except that they disagree about everything. Praise for The World and His Wife: “This account of the peculiar hell of an unhappy Victorian marriage is an exhilarating read. “ Katherine Mezzacappa, Historical Novel Society rev “Stephen Wyatt's wit, erudition and mastery of narrative are ideally suited to this corking tale of twisted love, obsession and revenge.” Andrew Cartmel, author of the best-selling Vinyl Detective series and co-author of 'The Rivers of London' comic books. “A masterpiece of a mismatched Victorian marriage - read it! And laugh and weep at the same time.” Christie Dickason, whose many historical novels include 'The Dragon Riders', 'The Firemaster’s Mistress' and 'The Noble Assassin' “Wyatt's research is faultless. But the book's greatest joy is Wyatt's recreation of the two central voices.” Jasper Barry, author of ‘The Second Groom’ and ‘That Deplorable Boy.'
