Arguing About Gods written by Graham Oppy and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-09-04 with Philosophy categories.
In this book, Graham Oppy examines arguments for and against the existence of God. He shows that none of these arguments is powerful enough to change the minds of reasonable participants in debates on the question of the existence of God. His conclusion is supported by detailed analyses of the arguments as well as by the development of a theory about the purpose of arguments and the criteria that should be used in judging whether or not arguments are successful. Oppy discusses the work of a wide array of philosophers, including Anselm, Aquinas, Descartes, Locke, Leibniz, Kant, Hume and, more recently, Plantinga, Dembski, White, Dawkins, Bergman, Gale and Pruss.

The ancient Israelites believed things that the writers of the Bible wanted them to forget: myths and legends from a pre-biblical world that the new monotheist order needed to bury, hide, or reinterpret. Ancient Israel was rich in such literary traditions before the Bible reached the final form that we have today. These traditions were not lost but continued, passed down through the ages. Many managed to reach us in post-biblical sources: rabbinic literature, Jewish Hellenistic writings, the writings of the Dead Sea sect, the Aramaic, Greek, Latin, and other ancient translations of the Bible, and even outside the ancient Jewish world in Christian and Islamic texts. The Bible itself sometimes alludes to these traditions, often in surprising contexts. Written in clear and accessible language, this volume presents thirty such traditions. It voyages behind the veil of the written Bible to reconstruct what was told and retold among the ancient Israelites, even if it is “not what the Bible tells us.”

This book is about the TRUTH, the WAY and the LIFE for all who are weary and heavily burdened needing rest. It tells the truth about who we are in Jesus Christ regardless of what we are. This new discovery of who we are brings new light on our past, present and future. We all seek the truth about who we are, the world, suffering and happiness. We all seek to find the best way to live our lives to the fullest. Regardless of what we are, we are all seekers of the same things. We think there are different ways and answers to what we seek because we are different. Jesus Christ says there is One Truth, One Way, One Life: Jesus Christ Himself. The Truth in Jesus Christ is we are dead in Christ, and Christ lives in us. The Way in Jesus Christ is for our souls to go in every breath to Jesus who dwells in us. The Life in Jesus Christ is to live as a new creation. Being a new creation is to experience a new mind, emotion, and body. Being a new creation is to have an undivided heart. Being a new creation is to live in the eternal time of God. To live in the eternal time of God is to be free from our past, present and future. To live in the eternal time of God is for our soul and our spirit to be in union with Christ; no longer confined to the body and to the visible things of this world. But it is to live in heaven where there is perfect rest, here and now. And we enjoy to the fullest this perfect rest as God's holy, blameless and righteous children in the present in the presence of God.

Israel's story as a people of God is a tale of women, men, and their children. Moving past a patriarchal reading of the Bible, Fischer presents a new interpretation of neglected biblical narratives. From a gender-balanced perspective, she reveals the political dimension and narrative continuation of ancestral stories in the Book of Ruth. Women Who Wrestled with God demonstrates the significance of women in religious history in a way that will inspire as well as inform. Chapters are: "The 'Fathers' and the Beginnings of the People– An Introduction to Israel's Ancestor's," "Sarah, Hagar, and Abraham: Scenes From a Marriage Under the Promise, " "Rebecca: A Strong Woman With a Colorless Husband," "Rachel and Leah: The Founders of the House of Israel," "Dark Sides of the Family Chronicle," "Subversive Women at the Beginnings of the People in Egypt," "Naomi and Ruth: The Unconventional Women Ancestors of the Royal House of David," and "Women Who Wrestled with God." Gods Others: Non-Israelites Encounters with God in the Hebrew Bible reveals the stories of two-dozen of the best-kept secrets in what is often referred to as the Old Testamentthe foundation text for the three Abrahamic faiths. Often overlooked or misunderstood, these non-Israelite individuals and groups encounter God through personal or historic revelations. They include: Melchizedek, King of Salem Lot, Abrahams nephew Hagar, Abrahams concubine Laban, Jacobs brother-in-law The Pharaoh of the Exodus Jethro, Moses father-in-law Rahab, harlot of Jericho The Queen of Sheba Ruth Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon The Gentiles of Jonah Job Gods others demonstrate that people may approach God by many paths. They show that claims to exclusive religious truth, which often have pitted Jews, Christians and Muslims against each other, represent a misreading of the Hebrew Bible and the Jewish position of respect for others. Traditional and modern commentary add depth to these biblical stories, making them as accessible as they are fascinating.

If the Bible is as Much Fable as Fact, Did God Create Man or Did Man Create God? searches for a reasonable and reasoned foundation upon which to speak of the relationship between God and humanity. The author, Peter Seiler, marshals his education in both science and history in his exploration of the Bibles claims of faith, shedding the light of scientific findings and historical analysis on the biblical texts. Spanning ten parts, the text begins with an extended introduction to the author and his method before conducting a four-part examination of the history of faith from the ancient past through the Enlightenment. Then the author examines, in three parts, the case for the involvement of alien life in human history. Finally, he turns to the future before summarizing his conclusions. If the Bible is as Much Fable as Fact, Did God Create Man or Did Man Create God? will satisfy the hunger of readers who desire to shed the light of reason, bolstered by verifiable facts, upon the claims of faith. It also will intrigue people with deeply held beliefs who desire to know the yearnings of their friends and family members who find those same claims of faith on the far side of a chasm they cannot traverse by a leap of faith. In either case, If the Bible is as Much Fable as Fact, Did God Create Man or Did Man Create God? makes a powerful case for its perspective on the titles question.

God is real. The evidence is solid and extensive. It’s not based on blind faith or wishful thinking, but on hard science. The starting point is to strip away layers of mysticism and superstition surrounding the question of a Supreme Being; then, to ask: what do we really mean by “God”? How can we describe Him? What evidence do we have such a Being exists? In addressing these questions, the book relies on physics and cosmology; on Relativity, Quantum Mechanics, String Theory, Black Hole Theory, Thermodynamics, Loop Quantum Gravity, and others. Ultimately, the scientific evidence leads to a provocative conclusion: the ubiquity of a Universal Mind.
