"The PTS (Pavlovian Temperament Survey) is the only personality inventory measuring the behavioral expression of nervous system properties as distinguished by Pavlov, namely, strength of excitation, strength of inhibition, and mobility of nervous processes." "This International Handbook describes the constructs on which the PTS is based and its theoretical background, as well as its construction, psychometric properties, the large amount of cross-cultural data collected to date, its validity, and of course its administration and application. Appendixes list the universal item pool, items and scorekeys for the country-specific versions, as well as reproducing several of the different language versions of the questionnaire (including American English, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Polish, Russian, and Spanish versions)."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. Temperament is the first monograph in 40 years to present theories and basic findings in the field of temperament from a broad international and interdisciplinary perspective. The text, based on the author's four decades of personal study and data collection, thoroughly explores the physiological, biochemical, and genetic bases of temperament - incorporating age-specific methods of assessment developed through child- and adult-oriented approaches. The 147 illustrations comprise tables of the most popular temperament inventories for both children and adults, and unique data tables illustrating the psychometric features of temperament inventories based on self-rating and rating by others.

Handbook Of Individual Differences In Cognition written by Aleksandra Gruszka and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-06-16 with Psychology categories.

As cognitive models of behavior continue to evolve, the mechanics of cognitive exceptionality, with its range of individual variations in abilities and performance, remains a challenge to psychology. Reaching beyond the standard view of exceptional cognition equaling superior intelligence, the Handbook of Individual Differences in Cognition examines the latest findings from psychobiology, cognitive psychology, and neuroscience, for a comprehensive state-of-the-art volume. Breaking down cognition in terms of attentional mechanisms, working memory, and higher-order processing, contributors discuss general models of cognition and personality. Chapter authors build on this foundation as they revisit current theory in such areas as processing effort and general arousal and examine emerging methods in individual differences research, including new data on the role of brain plasticity in cognitive function. The possibility of a unified theory of individual differences in cognitive ability and the extent to which these variables may account for real-world competencies are emphasized, and commentary chapters offer suggestions for further research priorities. Coverage highlights include: The relationship between cognition and temperamental traits. The development of autobiographical memory. Anxiety and attentional control. The neurophysiology of gender differences in cognitive ability. Intelligence and cognitive control. Individual differences in dual task coordination. The effects of subclinical depression on attention, memory, and reasoning. Mood as a shaper of information. Researchers, clinicians, and graduate students in psychology and cognitive sciences, including clinical psychology and neuropsychology, personality and social psychology, neuroscience, and education, will find the Handbook of Individual Differences in Cognition an expert guide to the field as it currently stands and to its agenda for the future.

People's experience in their everyday lives has attracted much research interest in the past two decades. This book focuses on the interplay of temperament and other personality traits with characteristics of situations and events in hourly and dailey mood fluctuations. All contributors used the Time Sampling Diary (TSD) in collecting data from a variety of populations over several weeks, at least four times a day at randomly selected points of time. Part 1 of the book introduces the TSD technique with detailed instructions for data collection, coding, and analysis. Part 2 covers reports on a study of Polish bank employees. The chapters of Part 3 reflect the experience of dangerous work situations in a steel factory, the emotional adjustment of adolescents to short and long-term unemployment, and the influences of husbands' daily or weekly commuting on their wives coping with housework and childcare. The chapters of Part 4 take a more philosophical approach to the material. The first contribution shows that personality traits influence well-being primarily in situations characterized by freedom of choice; the second introduces a rather new methodological approach clarifying the affinities of situations and subjective experience.
