ONE OF BLOOMBERG'S BEST BOOKS OF 2023 'Thomas Curran is the world's leading expert on perfectionism, and he's written the definitive book on why it's rising, how it wreaks havoc on our lives, and what we can do to stop it. If you've ever found yourself fearing failure, ruminating about mistakes, or just feeling that you aren't good enough, this is a must read' Adam Grant 'A fascinating and panoramic analysis of perfectionism in modern capitalist societies' Grace Blakeley Today, burnout and depression are at record levels, driven by a combination of intense workplace competition, the comparative world of social media, the quest for elite credentials, and helicopter parenting. Gathering a wide range of contemporary evidence, acclaimed professor at the London School of Economics Thomas Curran calls for both a mindset shift and broader, societal change. He explores the paradoxical effects of perfectionism on everything from performance to social and financial inequality, and shows what we can do as individuals to resist the modern-day pressure to be perfect - and how we can create a culture that celebrates the joys of imperfection. If you've ever felt overwhelmed by the soul-crushing need to compete for more or to be the best, The Perfection Trap is for you. Learn to prioritise what's important, meet the world where it is and strive for purpose instead of more by embracing the power of 'good enough' in your life.

“Offers a hopeful beacon and a steady path for anyone struggling to find their footing in a world of impossible standards.” —Daniel H. Pink, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Drive and The Power of Regret In the tradition of Brené Brown’s bestseller The Gifts of Imperfection, this illuminating book by an acclaimed professor at the London School of Economics explores how the pursuit of perfection can become a dangerous obsession that leads to burnout and depression—keeping us from achieving our goals. Today, burnout and depression are at record levels, driven by a combination of intense workplace competition, oppressively ubiquitous social media encouraging comparisons with others, the quest for elite credentials, and helicopter parenting. Society continually broadcasts the need to want more, and to be perfect. Gathering a wide range of contemporary evidence, Curran offers “a clear-eyed look at how perfectionism and its capitalistic ‘obsession with boundless growth’ has contributed to mass discontent and insecurity” (Publishers Weekly). He shows what we can do as individuals to resist the modern-day pressure to be perfect, and in so doing, win for ourselves a more purposeful and contented life. Filled with “many useful lessons and valuable insights…This book offers an alternative path to a fulfilling, productive life” (Kirkus Reviews) and the relief of letting go to focus on what matters most.

While the execution of perfection depends on the subject in question, the result is always the same—complete satisfaction. This intriguing collection of what qualifies as perfection covers quite the array of topics. From the perfect pour of a pint and the perfect age to propose to the shape of the perfect face and the telling of the perfect joke, you will be pleasantly surprised by the scope of perfection. A Study Edition, with Introduction, Commentary, Discussion Questions, Glossary, and a fully linked Index. St. Teresa of Avila is an unsurpassed teacher of Christian prayer and spirituality, and in The Way of Perfection she is at her best. Now, with the help of this study edition, everyone can enjoy the benefits of her wisdom. In The Way of Perfection, St. Teresa gives practical counsels and advice on prayer, destined originally for the few nuns who embraced the reformed Carmelite life she established. As a handbook for spiritual formation, it presented them with the basic Christian spirituality undergirding their Constitutions and Rule. Over the centuries, the book's appeal has reached far beyond the walls of Carmelite monasteries, and The Way of Perfection has become a spiritual classic. More and more today, Teresa's instructions speak to all those interested in prayer, providing them with basic guidelines for praying and showing how to avoid potential pitfalls. But as the readership and interest grow, so does the need for some help in working with this sixteenth-century text. The principles and teachings in Teresa's book, first presented within the limited horizons of her own situation, clearly lend themselves to broader applications, and can work well in all walks of life. This study edition-with its introduction, commentary, notes, discussion questions, glossary, and a fully linked Index-provides what is needed to assist contemporary readers in making these applications and delving more deeply into the text's spiritual riches.

The Image Of God And The Perfect Man written by Charles L. Hill and has been published by AuthorHouse this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-05 with categories.

My book, "The Image of God and the Perfect Man" does not consist of only one perfect man or woman, but it comprises a society of people. A city of people, who is set on a hill and cannot be hidden. A nation, a state, a city, whose builder and maker is God. Where holiness unto the Lord is, "The Image of God and the Perfect Man" is also relating to a free society. Where there is no dictatorship of sin mastering or controlling your life. A nation of people who believes that all things are possible through Jesus Christ who strengthens them. A society of people who believes in overcoming sin while yet living in this present world. After you have received the power of the holy ghost in your life. If you can recall, John the baptist is the one who said behold the lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the world. Now if Christ have taken away the sin of the world, than why are we still continuing therein. He has taken away the very nature of sin because he intended for us to live in a world that is free from sin. So that you and I can be happy. It is sin that causes us to be unhappy, dissatisfied with ourselves, and with others. It does not matter how much money we have or how many Grammys you have won. Without Jesus Christ in your life, you will never reach the full potential of true happiness. The image of God and the perfect man is a nation of people within a nation. The nation of Jesus Christ, where you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.
