• People are constituted by their relationships, past and present, inner and outer, conscious and unconscious. • People are agents who experience, know and act on the world. At the heart of your agency is your self: positive, puzzling, and problematic. Colin Kirkwood explores these and other ideas of John Macmurray, Ian Suttie, Ronald Fairbairn, John D Sutherland and Paulo Freire, and shows how they apply in counselling and psychotherapy, adult education, community and society. In today’s world, a set of ideas, attitudes and practices has taken hold, which emphasise the individual, self-centredness, pleasure-seeking, consumption, success and the accumulation of wealth and power. They are deeply harmful and need to be tackled. Colin demonstrates how these ideas affect us, and how they can be taken on and defeated, in a dialogical narrative of psychotherapy with a girl suffering from severe anorexia, written by the girl herself, her psychotherapist and one of her doctors. John Shemilt, Psychoanalyst and Consultant Psychiatrist, writes: Through his lucid, personalist account of the development of the Scottish tradition in psychoanalytic thinking, Colin Kirkwood provides an important 21st century commentary on the meaning of social context, the personal relationship and the experience of self in the process of counselling and psychotherapy. John McLeod, Emeritus Professor of Counselling, University of Abertay Dundee, writes: I highly recommend this book to all counsellors and psychotherapists who are interested in deepening their understanding of their work. Colin Kirkwood writes accessibly, with humour and grace, and draws on philosophical and cultural perspectives to offer a fresh appreciation of the meaning of adopting a relational approach to therapy. His work is grounded in everyday life experience, but at the same time views that experience as a microcosm of wider social and political currents. This book will be of interest to those involved in counselling, psychotherapy and psychoanalysis; psychiatry, psychology, nursing and general medical practice; social work and pastoral care; schooling, adult, community and higher education; ecology, theology and social geography; literature and philosophy; and politics, international and intercultural relations.

Successful speaking and understanding hinges on the almost effortless capacity of speakers to decode and build dependencies among words in a sentence, based on covariance in some specific feature(s). Whenever two features covary, an agreement relation is established. Agreement is a widespread and varied phenomenon: its pervasiveness in some languages contrasts with its near absence in others, which poses a challenge for linguists and psycholinguists that attempt to explain the mechanics of its representation, processing and acquisition. Agreement has been extensively investigated from a theoretical perspective, but also from the point of view of psycholinguistics and the cognitive neuroscience of language. Theoretical linguistics has provided an articulated system of structural representations and computations on which the establishment of agreement relations hinges, while psycholinguistics and cognitive neuroscience have aimed at unveiling the algorithms that underlie the use of these computations and their behavioral and neuro-physiological bases. The goal of this Research Topic is to draw together multiple and interdisciplinary work to highlight the state of the art in the study of agreement and propose new perspectives on this research topic. Publisher’s note: In this 2nd edition, the following article was added: Mancini S, Caffarra S and Nevins A (2021) Editorial: Featural Relations in the Brain: Theoretical and Experimental Perspectives on Grammatical Agreement. Marketing: A Relationship Perspective is back for a second edition and continues to set a benchmark for achievement in introductory marketing courses across Europe. It is a comprehensive, broad-based, and challenging basic marketing text, which describes and analyzes the basic concepts and strategic role of marketing and its practical application in managerial decision-making. It integrates the 'new' relationship approach into the traditional process of developing effective marketing plans. The book's structure fits to the marketing planning process of a company. Consequently, the book looks at the marketing management process from the perspective of both relational and transactional approach, suggesting that a company should, in any case, pursue an integrative and situational marketing management approach. Svend Hollensen's and Marc Opresnik's holistic approach covers both principles and practices, is drawn in equal measure from research and application, and is an ideal text for students, researchers, and practitioners alike.

First Published in 1995. The life of Jews in medieval Baghdad or 18th-century Tunis may now be considered to be important as Jewish life in 13th-century Worms or 19th-century Poland. Islamic theological and exegetical writing on Judaism may now command as much interest as their counterparts in Christian literature, while the rich Islamic-Jewish cultural interchange over many centuries is clearly of great significance. Studies in Muslim-Jewish Relations will be a series of general volumes each including a wide range of subjects, periodic edited volumes each focusing on a certain theme, and a planned related monograph series which will publish authored volumes on more specialized aspects of the field. This volume is a collection of twelve essays.
