This acclaimed graphic memoir that Kirkus calls “cathartic and uplifting” is the tale of losing a parent and what it feels like to grieve and to move forward. “I can’t recommend this kind, funny, and poignant memoir enough. It’s an intimate, life-affirming story of resilience that feels like a good friend.” —Mari Andrew, author of Am I There Yet? Tyler Feder had just white-knuckled her way through her first year of college when her super cool mom was diagnosed with late-stage cancer. Now, with a decade of grief and nervous laughter under her belt, Tyler shares the story of that gut-wrenching, heart-pounding, extremely awkward time in her life—from her mom’s first oncology appointment to her funeral through the beginning of facing reality as a motherless daughter. She shares the sting of loss that never goes away, the uncomfortable post-death firsts, and the deep-down, hard-to-talk-about feelings of the grieving process. Dancing at the Pity Party is a frank and refreshingly funny look at what it’s like to grieve—for anyone struggling with loss who just wants someone to get it.

The Pity Of Achilles written by Jinyo Kim and has been published by Rowman & Littlefield this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2000 with Drama categories.

In The Pity of Achilleus, Jinyo Kim examines how the major themes of the Iliad--Achilleus' 'wrath, ' heroic values such as honor and glory, and human mortality and suffering, to mention the most widely recognized--are connected to each other in a way that reveals the poem's structural coherence and unity. Kim asks whether Achilleus' pity toward Priam at the poem's close is, as is widely believed, a poetic deus ex machina. In other words, is the conception of Achilleus' pity an expression of a 'later' and 'more civilized' era, as a way of 'correcting' the warlike savagery that is an undeniable and significant part of the poem? She concludes, rather, that Achilleus' final reconciliation with the old king of Troy-- his 'enemy' according to the warrior ethos in the Iliad-- represents the integral and ultimate resolution of the theme of Achilleus' 'wrath' that is announced in the poem's opening lines. This book will be valuable for students and scholars of classical literature and classical civilization.

Meet young police officer Pete Jakes and his Turkish-born wife, Ali. Petes last posting was as a Canadian soldier in Afghanistan. After a serious brush with a roadside explosive, he decided to switch careers and look for peace in rural Ontario. Unfortunately, the Jakes chose to come to Middle Island, population 4,500, where a proposed wind energy project has set the community into a tailspin. For millennia, Hawks Nest Point, a wind-swept rocky spear stabbing out into the lake, was literally left to the birds. Now an energy-hungry world has caught up with it. People want to harvest the wind. The Jakes find themselves setting up house amidst a weird potpourri of bird lovers, money-hungry real estate operators, and mysterious vandals in the night. Then tragedy strikes when a worker falls to his death from the demonstration turbine tower. Pete doubts the official accident verdict, but he must find proof for his suspicions. As Pete delves further into the motives and actions of the local islanders, tempers erupt and a murderer lurks under the wailing winds at Hawks Nest Point.

The controversial revisionist history of World War I that made Niall Ferguson's name The First World War killed around eight million men and bled Europe dry. More than any other event, it made the twentieth century. In this boldly conceived book and provocative, aimed to appeal not only to students but also to the general reader, Niall Ferguson explodes many of the myths surrounding the war. Fifth century Athenians were expecially hostile to tyrants and tyranny as a result of Peisistratid treachery during the Persian Wars. Their hostility engendered a persistent refusal to acknowledge the truth of collaboration during the tyranny and so a revisionism which fundamentally affected the tradition about it. This study first examines the psychology of mass revisionism and of the early fifth century Athenians leading to their transfigurement of the tyrannicide/s; genos- and demos-traditions and topoi relating to the tyranny affirm and further define the distortion and deformative process affecting the historical record. This work aims to establish better bases for reconstructing Peisistratid history, but also for comprehending the psychology of Athenian antityrannism.
