THE POCKET WATCH PLOT April 1865. Jefferson Davis gives identical pocket watches to a Confederate Colonel and a Major and sends the men off with half a ton of gold to bury north of Richmond. He orders them to write down the location, cut the directions in two, and conceal one half inside each watch until called upon to retrieve the gold for the Southern cause. September 2011. The Colonel's heir, Davis Lee Monroe, now owns one of the watches and half the directions. He learns that the other watch may have been inherited by Jason Spears, a disreputable lawyer, who has put it up for auction. Monroe wants the gold to fund political candidates sympathetic to modern-day secession. He hires Nick Mercante to investigate and bid on the watch. Spears subverts the auction by removing the other half of the directions from the watch. Nick then forms an alliance with two others who have been victimized by Spears-Alison McKenna, his jilted fiancee, and Peter Rutledge, his target in a baseless lawsuit. Playing their own game of deception, Nick and his allies manipulate Spears to get his half of the directions, but Spears has plans of his own to get Monroe's half. In a surprising climax Nick discovers the location of the gold, Spears confronts Monroe and the last gunshot of the Civil War is fired."

The complete, clear guide to creating compelling plots for film -Integrate plot, characterization, and exposition to make stories real - Examples from new and classic movies examine great plots in action Plot must be as much about the emotions of the characters as it is about the events of the story. That’s the message of The Art of Plotting, which teaches screenwriters how to integrate plot, characterization, and exposition to make stories compelling. Using examples from recent and classic movies, author Linda J. Cowgill demonstrates how the plot springs naturally from the characters--and how that technique makes audiences connect with the story on a more intimate level. Examples include American Beauty, Shakespeare in Love, Erin Brockovich, Spider-Man, Chinatown, Jaws, and more. Easy exercises reveal common plot problems and help writers overcome them. Clear and easy to understand and to use, The Art of Plotting shows exactly how great plotting evolves from characters caught in life-changing conflicts--and how to create great plots driven by that idea.

Please note: This is a companion version & not the original book. Sample Book Insights: #1 The German state of Brandenburg has a village green on which communal events are celebrated, and the Brandenburg Gate is the setting for all great national events. The Gate was originally built as a monument to peace, but it has become a symbol of the division of Germany and the world into two blocs. #2 The first person to use the Brandenburg Gate for a triumphal entry was not King Frederick II of Prussia, but Napoleon Bonaparte. After the Battle of Austerlitz in December 1805, the only German state still offering serious resistance to the invader was Prussia. #3 The Brandenburg Gate is a monument to which history has added layers of meaning. It is also a remarkable standpoint from which to view some of the key moments in German history. From this place alone, you can see evidence of the Napoleonic Wars, as well as many other great events that have shaped the German national memory. #4 The westward view from the Brandenburg Gate is a view of Germany’s place in the world between 1870 and 1914. If things had gone as Hitler and Albert Speer had planned, the view north in the late 1940s would have shown their idea of what that place ought to be.

Sex And The Short Story written by Cumes Dr James and has been published by eBookIt.com this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-04 with Family & Relationships categories.

A Sense Of Place Publishing is proud to include Dr James Cumes amongst its authors. The publication of his sweeping essay on the evolution of Sex and the Short Story represents the first of what we hope will be many further contributions from this esteemed writer. The book examines the evolution of the language, such as when specific words first appeared in English dictionaries, associated with sexual descriptions in novels and short stories; pans across obscenity trials and looks with some amazement at the rapid evolution from prudishness to a point where almost anything goes. It serves as a stand alone piece on the changing social mores; and also serves as an introduction to subsequent volumes of Dr James Cumes' short stories, to be published by A Sense of Place Publishing. These include Dirty Weekend and Life Is A Belly Dance. He worked his way up the Australian Foreign Affairs Department and subsequently became a distinguished Australian Ambassador to the European Union after holding diplomatic posts including Ambassador and Head of Mission in Paris, Geneva, London, Bonn and Berlin. His career has also included acting as Australian representative to the United Nations and Governor on the Board of the International Atomic Energy Agency. Cumes is now working on two books of memoirs derived from his period as High Commissioner to Nigeria. While his pursuit into erotica and the short story seems at odds with the official nature of much of James Cumes' career and other writings, his diversity of interests make him one of Australia's few truly Renaissance characters.
