Excerpt from Diseases of the Chest and the Principles of Physical Diagnosis To write a practical book on the physical diagnosis of the heart and lungs in health and disease, has been the aim of the authors. We have at tempted to omit everything not of practical diagnostic use, and to con dense methods of secondary importance. More than is the custom has been written on the subject of diagnostic acoustics, because we believe that only through the comprehension of the laws of sound production and transmission can the results of percussion and auscultation be intelligently interpreted. Excerpt from Principles and Practice of Physical Diagnosis Care has been taken to secure an adequate number of original illustrations that will prove helpful to the reader, those representing various clinical conditions having been reproduced from photographs of patients observed in the Jefferson Hospital and in the Philadelphia General Hospital, and those showing pathologic lesions having been made from Kaiserling preparations by Dr. R. C. Rosenberger and Dr. John Funke, of the pathological staffs of these institutions. Recknagel model-studies and figures standardized to Cunningham have been utilized for many of the diagrams by Mr. E. F. Faber and by Mr. J. V. Alteneder. The sphygmograms and cardiograms are the work of Dr. George Bachmann, and the radiographic plates were made by Dr. W. F. Manges. For the cooperation so cordially extended by these gentlemen hearty thanks are herewith returned. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from Principles of Diagnosis, and Treatment in Heart Affections Another object I have in view is to present this subject in such a form as to lead to a better conception of what clinical medicine means and how clinical investigations should be carried out, and, if possible, to stimulate research on lines which are essential to advance, but which have been wholly neglected. I have to thank my friends Dr. George A. Sutherland and Dr. R. M. Wilson for their kind assistance and suggestions. Introduction To The Outlines Of The Principles Of Differential Diagnosis written by Fred; J. Smith and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-07-08 with Medical categories.

Excerpt from Introduction to the Outlines of the Principles of Differential Diagnosis: With Clinical Memoranda The number of works on medicine, and its various quasi-special branches, that claim the time and attention of over-burdened students and practitioners is so great that only one excuse should be offered for adding to it, viz. either to say something new or to put forward a more rational and simpler arrangement of what is old. Very little that is new will be found in the following pages, but I claim that I have attempted to arrange the old, old phenomena of disease in such a manner as to show more clearly their fundamental meanings and relationships. I have utilised the data of physiology, and the facts of pathological anatomy, as the source from which to draw inferences and deductions, which in their turn constitute a critical analysis of clinical symptoms; I have endeavoured by this analysis to lead up to the underlying principles which govern disease as well as health. Once these principles, which are few in number, are recognised, bedside symptoms become merely illustrations of them, varied, it may be, by local and individual peculiarities, yet ever stamped with such a likeness that the simplest induction will speedily explain the organ of their origin. Isolated, or apparently isolated, facts thus lose their isolation, and become members of a related community; they no longer require separate efforts of memory for their retention, but fall naturally into their places as deductions from a universal law. Excerpt from Practical First Principles: Simplifying the Study of Normal and Abnormal Structure and Function, and Aiding Diagnosis; Designed for the Use of Students and Practitioners of Medicine The object of this little book is to simplify the study of medicine for the beginner, and to connect the various sub divisions of this science in the minds of the busy practitioner in a rational and readily comprehended manner. There are, it seems almost needless to say, many who do not require this aid, and for such it is not intended, but it is offered to those who may find it useful. Its inception was the crystalliz ing experience of lecture room, dissecting room, and private teaching of students more than fifteen years ago. The plan followed in these pages is the same as that which in the past gave many a backward student a new impetus upon the high way of medical learning, as evidenced by his readier under standing of his lessons, and his improved standing in quizzes and periodic review examinations. Excerpt from Principles of Medicine: Comprising General Pathology and Therapeutics, and a Brief General View of Etiology, Nosology, Semeiology, Diagnosis, Prognosis and Hygienics More than n year has elapsed since the first edition of this work was out of print, and it has been the subject of continual regret on my part that my engagements have so long retarded the completion of the present. Some excuse for the delay will, I trust, be found in the very extensive additions which it contains, comprising the enunciation and application of most of the facts and established deductions made available to the science and art of medicine during the last few years. These additions pervade almost every portion of the work; but they preponderate in the following subjects: - In Etiology, mechanical, chemical, and dietetic causes of disease, defective cleanliness, ventilation, and drainage. In Pathology, the tabular views of the elements of disease; reflex action and sympathy; elementary changes in the blood; congestion; determination of blood; inflammation, in its nature, manifold results, and modes of treatment; degeneration of textures; cacoplastic and aplastic deposits, and their treatment, with a notice of the action of the cod liver oil; and the whole chapter on Hygienics, comprising food, clothing, air and temperature, exercise, mental occupation, sleep, and excretion.
