She took a ferry across the Mersey to Wirral, where she obtained a position as a maid to the Hislop family. Life changed dramatically. She blossomed into a beautiful young woman enjoying life below stairs in the lovely old house Woodleigh. The Hislops sons, especially Philip, were all attracted to Dorothy. At twenty she made an unsuitable marriage, which survived the separation of the Second World War. The following years she struggled to keep the family together for her childrens sake. Years later, someone from her past came back into her life. This proved to be a turning point and the beginning of a long fight for happiness.
